SpaceX chief Elon Musk was challenged by a reporter on whether his decision to thwart a Ukrainian attack on the Russian navy by not activating Starlink satellites had cost Ukrainian lives.

James Matthews, Sky News' US correspondent, on Tuesday questioned Musk as he left a meeting with the Federal Aviation Authority in Washington, DC.

Musk refused to answer when asked if his "ego and ignorance" had cost Ukrainian lives, or when asked to comment about Russian President Vladimir Putin's description of him as "outstanding."

"Vladimir Putin calls you outstanding, Mr. Musk. Do you appreciate that? What would you call Vladimir Putin? Has your ego and ignorance, sir, cost Ukrainian lives? A senior war official says it has," said Matthews.

Musk is facing criticism after Walter Isaacson, in his new biography of the billionaire, revealed that Musk had halted a Ukrainian attack on the Russian navy in Sevastopol, Crimea, in the early weeks of the Ukraine war.

Musk refused to activate Starlink satellites being used to guide Ukrainian drones to their targets, Isaacson has said, correcting his initial account in which he said Musk had turned them off.

"The war in Ukraine, when no other company or even country could manage to keep communications satellites working, gave him a center-stage opportunity to show his humanitarian instincts while playing superhero," said Isaacson.

"It also showed the complexities of critical military infrastructure being controlled by an often well-intentioned but mercurial private citizen."

Musk in a tweet said if he hadn't stopped the attack "then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation."

Ukraine has criticized the decision, with Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying that by foiling the attack Musk "allowed this fleet to fire Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian cities", resulting in the deaths of civilians.

The Kremlin has praised it, with Putin describing Musk as an "outstanding person" on Wednesday.

Other critics say Musk's claim the attack would've escalated the conflict was wrong, and have pointed to other attacks Ukrainian attacks on Sevastopol, including one on Tuesday, that have not resulted in a massive Russian retaliation.

Not only did Musk protect the Russian Black Sea fleet while it was bombing Ukrainian cities by turning off Starlink, but now he is preaching that Taiwan should be given to mainland China. How is this guy not registered as a foreign agent?

In fact Elon Musk 'did' answer for why he refuse the Ukraine the ability to escalate a war that could have caused Rissia to go nuclear.

Of course Taiwan is part of China!

America's only stake in it is once again it's foreign policy of aggression on the fake pretense of protecting democracy.

That was the Russian ambassador's bullshit line after Musk called him to inform him of Ukraine's plan to attack. So how is Musk not required to register as a foreign agent?

I wouldnt answer either. Of course he isnt responsible. Thats silly war monger bullshit.

So the people of Taiwan have nothing to say about this? Sitting safely in Canada you find it impossible to empathize with the people of Taiwan who want to enjoy the freedoms you exercise every time you post on this forum.

Of course, he is responsible. Musk clearly consulted with the Russian ambassador to the US before deciding to block the attack on Russian warships that were bombing Ukrainian cities, which is a war crime. Combine this with his preposterous but clearly pro Russian "peace plan" and one must ask, why isn't this guy required to register as a foreign agent?

You are a moonbat. Period.

Starlink plays an important role in the areas where Ukrainian mobile operators can't provide their services. Also, it is not a big secret that Starlink is used by Ukrainian military.

Musk can be criticized for some of his decisions, or not, but the role of his firm shouldn't be underestimated.

The people of Taiwan will decide in an election to stay with China, even though America will apply pressure on them to do otherwise.

Your concern is as phony as America's concern for the missing WMD's in Iraq, the women's freedom in Afghanistan, or the saving of the people of the Ukraine.

Name your war, it's always the same lies America is trying to hide behind.

Simply, Elon Musk is in no way obliged to support a foreign country's war against Russia.

The claim that it's not America's war against Russia has come back to bite mr. toomuch's ass.

There is no doubt that Starlink is of great value to Ukrainians and in some cases to the Ukrainian military, but one should keep in mind that before Musk provided it to Ukraine, hardly anyone had heard of Starlink which has had great growth since its use by Ukraine became known, and once Musk had gained all this publicity for providing it, he wanted to close it down unless the US government paid for it, which it does now.

In election after election the people of Taiwan reject coming under the government of mainland China.

It is clearly not America's war and that is why he has not been charged with treason, but his consistent efforts to undermine US policy and advance Russia's agenda as well as China's agenda suggest he should be required to register as a foreign agent.

Would he have been responsible for dead Russians if he had done otherwise?

Yes, Musk refused to provide his services to Ukraine for free, and the US government has to pay for that. But so what? He is an owner of the business and making profits is his main goal. There are no alternatives available.

Would he have been responsible for dead Russians if he had done otherwise?
Of course, he would have had some responsibility for killing some Russian soldiers who were bombing Ukrainian civilians, but he chose to protect the soldiers at the cost of being partially responsible for killing Ukrainian civilians. This tells us that there was no way for him to stay out of this war, and the fact he called the Russian ambassador before making his decision, tells us he consciously chose to sacrifice the Ukrainian civilians.
