You might be interested to learn that in New York City approximately 1/3 of the High School students drop out and the vast majority of the 2/3 that do "Graduate" cannot perform even at community college level without remedial education. What pathetic, lowbrow standards are we setting for our children? This is in American's premier city, the cultural and financial center of our nation. It is not a question of money either, the city spends $18,000 per student.

In Renaissance Florence, Lorenzo Medici set up an educational system that spent generously on scholars and books (under $18,000 per pupil) and produced the greatest artist of the period; Il Magnifico set a standard for excellence and in return we got Michelangelo. In America, we set up a state run Third World educational system that intellectually abuses children, makes them give up, breaks them, fails to teach them and in return we get wards of the state and loyal Democrat Party voters. Our education system is a form of pedophilia where our kids are abused on a daily basis. In the inner city parents cry to let the children to attend Charter school and be given a chance for a full and rewarding life. In response, our educational system tries to cut the exits.

It has to end, the educational system must be transformed and reformed. We have to stop the intellectual abuse of our kids at the hands of a state run educational system.

to be fair we must recognize too that a liberal entitlement culture produces horrible students. I knew a woman who taught kindergarten in the South Bronx. She said kids right off the boat from Bangladesh who had grown up with no clothes, english, or electricity to speak of made better students than the indigenous ghetto liberal kids.

They don't feel everything is owed to them for being born like ours.

Starting pay for a millwright, with the inevitable overtime, is about $60K a year. A journey level millwright can easily get to six figures. That is with two years of community college, or a 4 year apprentice course while working on the job. An electrician can do even better.

So why should someone smart enough to be a teacher continue to take the shit and lack of respect that we now see in the nation for the little pay that they get? Why should they want to deal with the children of the wingnut hacks that we see posting here, who are ever so proud of their willfull ignorance?

As I see it, the primary problem with the American educational sytem lies in the home of the children.

Every high profile conservative speaker has been the victim of assault on a college campus at one time. What does that tell you about the left? The left is more interested in propaganda than education.

Well the South must have the strongest and largest teacher unions in the nation because that's where one finds the highest rate of school droputs and illiterate adults. So the first step to improve schools is to eliminate teacher unions in the southern states. With the unions gone we'll see 100% of the students graduating with improved test scores and bingo we know we are on the right track. I wonder how the South ended up with the strongest teacher unions in the nation, but you can't argue the fact that teacher unions prevent learning.

Why do none of you believers in simple solutions recognize the complexity of education? My wife has taught since forever and each year the students, many of them, don't give a crap about learning the fundamentals nor even the peripheral nonsense. America does not honor education, they honor money and sports and distraction. The smart, motivated students still do well and they do well regardless of school, the majority just don't give a shit.
