There are plenty of ways to do things. That doesn't mean its a good, right or the only way. And since no one wanted Troops in Syria you're trying to make Putin''s lying and doing whatever he wants is a solution better than any other.. bombing ambulances is a method also, but not the best alternative.

No doubt President Obama's administration had more international fuckups than wins. Appeasement never works and that was his main international policy for about 4 years. Sure, he followed military advisors with the surge in Afghanistan and he also took the advice of both military and State advisors about supporting the international effort in the Libyan civil war, but most of his measures were half-assed and limp-wristed when it came to standing up against assholes.

Three Russians fighting alongside government forces have been killed in Syria, it was reported on Tuesday, in what would be the first Russian casualties since Moscow’s intervention in the war there began three weeks ago.

Since Russia began its bombing campaign in Syria on September 30, 2015, at least 12 Russian soldiers have been confirmed by the Russia Defense Ministry as killed, but independent journalists and bloggers have documented several more deaths and discovered reports of dozens more killed but not acknowledged by the government.

WASHINGTON — A small number of C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey, helping allies decide which Syrian opposition fighters across the border will receive arms to fight the Syrian government, according to American officials and Arab intelligence officers.

The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the officials said.

The C.I.A. officers have been in southern Turkey for several weeks, in part to help keep weapons out of the hands of fighters allied with Al Qaeda or other terrorist groups, one senior American official said. The Obama administration has said it is not providing arms to the rebels, but it has also acknowledged that Syria’s neighbors would do so.

The clandestine intelligence-gathering effort is the most detailed known instance of the limited American support for the military campaign against the Syrian government.

It is also part of Washington’s attempt to increase the pressure on President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, who has recently escalated his government’s deadly crackdown on civilians and the militias battling his rule. With Russia blocking more aggressive steps against the Assad government, the United States and its allies have instead turned to diplomacy and aiding allied efforts to arm the rebels to force Mr. Assad from power.

Syria is one of the last of the secular non-Islamic Arab states. That's why the Wahabis want to overthrow the secular Government. The Syrian Arab Army is one of the few Arab Armies with a substantial Christian officer corps.

2) Syria under Assad was not much of a threat to its neighbors or to the USA
3) if Assad is ousted you will probably have never ending Muslim civil war there that kills as many as current war but is ultimately won by ISIS or a hostile coalition.
