Do you think America's best days for the middle class are behind us?

I wanted the USMB crew to weigh in on this

No. Real Americans don't have defeatist attitudes like that. We are slowly...but steadily.....becoming more progressive. It's a tough row to hoe....as we have a sizable population of idiots...but we are getting it done. The more progressive....the stronger the middle class.

You can't beat us....you may as well join us.

Defeatist? Wow. You remind me of the NKVD and their commissars who murdered "defeatist" troops. Reducing government control of the people is always a good thing. Unfortunately progressivism generates MORE government control. Progressivism is evil.

Yeah, too bad we had a progressive like fdr who ruined the country by putting people back to work and by bringing in social security, which keeps millions from poverty.

FDR arguably prolonged the Depression because of his meddling policies. Just like Bush and Obama in this generation did tremendous damage to the economy by not letting the various corporations fail. We the taxpayer got to pay all of those debts and the arrogant pricks had the fucking gall to give themselves bonuses. They should all be rotting in prison right now but no, the Bush/Obama admins sucked their collective dicks and gave them what they wanted.

Assholes.
While I totally agree that many of the CEO's and upper management of many of the corporations and banks that created the near depression of 2008 should be in federal prison, we simply could not let the corporations just fail. That would have created the Second Great Republican Depression. However, after the smoke cleared, the banks and corporations should have been broken into smaller entities. Too big to fail, too big too exist.

Now one of the people that I reccommended had poor reading and math skills. Yet he was a natural mechanic, and a hard worker. His supervisor told him that if he would upgrade those skills, he would recommend that he be awarded an apprenticeship in the millwright program. Now, with a paying goal in mind, in six months, he managed to learn basic math and algebra skills, and to read well enough to write work orders and out line job procedures.

That's a good thing your company does.
I went to high school in Dayton, Oh. At the time a strong automotive town and in the top three in the world for machine tooling.

The demand for highly skilled labor was so great that everybody was involved in filling those jobs, i.e. apprenticeships at companies, training in high school, mentoring etc.

NCR was close to my HS. They trained their apprentices at night in our machine shop. NCR upgraded ALL our lathes, mills, grinders etc. so their apprentices were being taught on the latest machinery.

And it helped everyone else in machine shop.

Those days of cooperation between schools and industry seem to have gone away.

Except in Germany. They still run great apprentice programs.

We here acted like everybody was going to work on computers and not with their hands.

Bad mistake.

Yes, many come out of school without no ambition, and then reality bites them. All too many just accept that they are not good enough and spend their time whining about it.

I am a reading tutor.
Biggest obstacle I see for about 30% of high school "grads" is that they can't read at a level to master complex subjects.

This is a problem that isn't going away. What to do with poorly educated young men in particular.

While I still stand by my statement that the majority will eventually get this mess fixed, we are farther away than I thought. In another thread we are discussing the big Apple/tech company collusion case where they colluding and held down wages. Several on the right are actually defending that illegal activity and think it is good capitalism. How can so many on the right not even understand good capitalism? If people don't even understand capitalism we are a long way from fixing this mess.

Yes, we could. And we should have let them fail.

And every major civilization has always....ALWAYS fallen. Looks like the people sounding the warnings, were correct.
How many times has it been said compared to the number of times it happened? That's the point. I can say "watch out, something bad is going to happen". Everyone will applaud when I'm right and promptly forget all the times I was wrong.

Every single time. The length of time that it takes for the fall to occur is the only question. The second that a large number of people start telling you there is a problem, you had better listen.
Well, you see, you are a prime example of the type of people that have the head buried in the sand. Almost all the scientists in world are telling us that we have a problem with global warming, but you refuse to acknowledge the cause of that problem. Now, if all the major people in politics and economics were saying we have a major problem, I would worry, but the are not. They say we do have problems with income inequality, but then outline solutions to that problem. And the various politicians choose who they think has the best solutions, then we choose among those politicians. A cumbersome system whose only defense is that it has worked better than any other system tried thus far.

So, do I think that we have problems to address? Yes. Are they major or insurmountable problems? No.

Wrong, a majority of scientists DON'T "believe" in AGW. My head is firmly rooted in the scientific method which the AGW faithers have abandoned. Once they ran away from those controls they lost me.

That is because so many on the right listen to numbnuts like Limpbaugh, and have never read what Adam Smith said in 'Wealth of Nations' concerning not paying labor in accordance to their contributions.

It is hard to believe that those who chant the loudest about how great capitalism is don't even understand it. Every real capitalist should hate things like collusion. And these are the same people against min wage. The argument against both should be the same, they don't let the market determine wages.

I'm tired of hearing people complain about America's prosperity. What's the problem with today's American middle class? Unless a socialist gets elected it seems that the middle class will continue to be able to enjoy the freedom to work hard and become rich and successful. The fact is that the so-called poor in the United States live better than 3/4 of the so called middle class in the rest of the world. Obama and the radical left will just be a mild glitch in the scheme of things as long as they don't get their slimy hands on the Constitution.

Because the middle class are LOSING the ability to do just what you desire. Right now it is a reversible prospect. However, the repubs, AND the democrats, are working to pass legislation that will crush the middle class.

What? Liberals have been telling us that 0bama fixed everything.

No we haven't. Why lie?

Yes you have liar.

Nope. Obama has hardly fixed everything. Nobody has claimed that he's fixed everything.....or most things. You have ODS. You hear things that aren't said, see things that aren't there and feel things that have no basis in reality.

It's something that you will continue to suffer from until you die. It's a symptom of being stupid.

Ok you lying idiot. Here's all I'll say in response to your stupidity.

Yes you morons DID say Obama fixed everything. Maybe one person didn't say it but we have been told by all of you separately that Obama has fixed what amounts to everything.

You are a liar, everyone knows that, and here you have been lying yet again. Now go away asshole.

Nope. We know that many things are not fixed. If they get fixed....other problems will arise. Some of them even caused by Obama. It is the way shit goes.

You are just too stupid to grasp these concepts.

America's best days are ahead of us, and I can't stand the pessimists and whiners and pants shitters who have infected the Right. They sound more and more like the effeminate Liberals of the 70s.

We have never been greater.

Greatest economy in the world. GDP far greater than any other nation.
Greastest military ever. One US armored division could destroy any other nation's entire armed forces.
Closer to "All Men Created Equal" than ever before.

Only a whiny loser would say we are not great.

Why's that funny, Rustballs?

It's obvious that the better days for the middle class are behind us as the middle class keeps on shrinking......this of course has been one of Obama's marxist goals as he has attacked the middle class heavily with regulations and corporatism.....unless we change things soon it is going to continue to decline.....

Specifically what regulations?

I realize we have many. But specifically which ones do you think are a problem?
