The poll question was never a valid one anyway. The DP is said to be the oldest political party in the world and the idea of a party standing for the same thing todays it stood for 50, 100 or 190 years ago, as if time is forever frozen and static, is absurd.

Yes basically I agree with you about 95%, but would add that when you boil it down to its lowest common denominator - Republicans are the lesser of two evils. In any event that was one of the best posts I've seen here in quite some time .

The names of the political parties can be twisted, and over the years some have changed and some have disappeared. What ever happened to the Federalist party, was it conservative or liberal? How about the Progressive party of Teddy Roosevelt or Whig party, liberal or conservative, and what of the Republican party of Thomas Jefferson, whatever happened to that? By the way, we usually capitalize the political party to indicate it's the party not the ideology.

Jefferson wasn't a republican.... There were not republicans then. He was a democrat republican and those no longer exist. So please keep showing us how ignorant you are of history and the truth.

Jefferson was both a Republican and a republican. The Jeffersonians took the name Republican changing it later to Democratic-Republicans. In our early period, democracy was not an OK political word. Democrats today trace their party back to Jefferson.

Well thanks but still - "Republican" or "Democrat" is just an identifier of which power machine one attaches to. Ultimately it means little as a guide to a particular person or their ideology, which IMO is going to be far more determined by their context of place and, especially, time.

During Reconstruction and up until the 1940s, 75% to 85% of black children lived in two-parent families. Today, more than 70% of black children are born to single women. The welfare state has done to black Americans what slavery couldn't do, what Jim Crow couldn't do, what the harshest racism couldn't do,.... And that is to destroy the black family.
