Actually, in the military, you DO have First Amendment rights, but in order to exercise them, you have to check with the PAO (Public Affairs Officer) first to check if you can go in uniform or not. If it is a partisan event, you have to go in civilian clothes. If it is a general event (Memorial day and the like), in certain cases you can go in uniform.

And no...............the military is NOT supposed to keep their mouth shut and follow orders. In Navy Rights and Responsibilities (required annual classes), you were told that you are supposed to obey all LAWFUL orders, but if you know an order to be unlawful (they order you to wash their car or something that isn't in your job description, or against regs), then you not only have the right to refuse to follow it, but you have the duty to report it as well.

You weren't ever in the military, were you?

This always happens when talking to liberals. You say how stupid something is and they run on about rights. YES, you have the right to be stupid. I hope that clears it up for you.

There is a mechanism for addressing grievances in the military, publicly running your yap isn't one of them. You do not have all the rights and privileges of a civilian while serving. If you don't believe me, join up!
