Slow down Hoss and think for a minute. The Defense Authorization bill would simply remove Article 125 from the UCMJ...the article that deals primarily with sodomy (restrictions on which, by the way, were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States).

Bestiality is illegal in all 50 states in the U.S. Military members are subject to the laws of the United States. Removing it from the UCMJ does not make it "okay" in any way, shape or form.

We all know that bestiality is just a dog whistle and it's really same sex consenting adult relations that the religious right still wants to see prohibited.

It was removed because making anal and oral sex illegal (an asinine concept anyway) is a difficult thing to justify if you are going to allow gays into the military as they really don't have any other options....

The article was never really used as a primary anyway. It was mainly kept around as something to add in sexual misconduct/rape cases as an additional charge to the primary charges. As was pointed out earlier, there are several 'catch all' articles anyway. Anything you do in the military can be construed as illegal under one of the articles. There really is no need to outline bestiality and other sexual acts. Conduct unbecoming of a military member pretty much covers that already...

I knew of plenty of people raped (I was a rape crisis counselor for the military) and stories of military personnel committing murder pop up all the time.

Removing article 125 is not going to result in an increase of incidents of bestiality...as the OP seems to be implying. Bestiality can also be covered under the General article can it not?
