Defense department agrees to allow Muslim cadets to wear hijabs

American servicewomen are already donning the hijab in Afghanistan.

That's tactical. It's a little different.

Full on beards aren't exactly a staple of military uniforms, but SF dons them when they are in country.

"IN AFGHANISTAN".... just another example of America knuckling under. Those females should be wearing the American military uniform they way the UCMJ directs them too, and fuck anybody that doesn't like it. Some country doesn't like it, then we shouldn't be there.

Why don't you march your busted old ass over there and tell them?

Make sure you are out of range of a butt stroke.

This is a separation of church and state issue as well as a proper uniform issue.

And it seems the mentally libtarded don't care b/c it's muslims.

If some christian kid wanted to wear something, they'd be all over him.

So unless they allow Jews to wear yamicas and have the curly hair, this is discrimination.

Oh, and did I mention separation of church and state?

When I was in the service, I had a roommate who was a Seek.

Really? What was he looking for, idiot?

So I didn't know how to spell it. Who cares? He still wore a turban and had long hair and a beard. We was also the colonel's driver. Why is there no "r" in colonel?

Please people. There is nothing wrong with any of this. It has nothing to do with anything except following established regulations and the Constitution of the United States. And it has nothing to do with the non existent separation of church and state.

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution reinforced by Title 10 U.S. Code (USC) and Army Regulation (AR) 165-1, guarantees every American the right to the free exercise of religion. Commanders are responsible for those religious freedoms within their command. On behalf of the commander, Chaplains provide and perform Religious Support (RS) in the Army to ensure the free exercise of religion.

And here is a list of religions that are "officially" recognized:

The British Army has allowed this type of head gear to be worn for years with no problems.

The British lost every time they tried to beat the US, I think that proves more than them letting wogs wear dresses.
You might want to crack open a history book sometime and read about the War of 1812 before you make such uneducated statements.

Having those Soldiers don a hijab is pathetic, are they going to keep bullets away from them? did we have our soldiers wear swastikas and dress as geisha girls when we were fighting WW2?:doubt:

does appear f*cked up. any chance these soldiers chose this gear for themselves?

Don't really know but even so it shouldn't be allowed, thats the whole purpose of the Military uniform, if we allow people to be creative with it , it destroys the whole purpose of having one, might as well let Soldiers wear whatever the hell they want. If we allow this why not allow the men to wear turbans and grow jihadi beards?

Stop and think for a moment.....since our military is fighting FOR people/gov't whose culture it is to separate the sexes on many levels and who find women NOT wearing the hijab to be offensive, it stands to reason that female military personnel comply with the cultural standard. Also, last time I checked women are STILL not allowed on the front lines of combat with men in the US military, so their chances of taking a head shot is just as good as the military men in those areas who are not wearing combat helmets.

And for the record, your comparison to WW2 "geisha girls" and "nazis" is just plain absurd.

They were sent packing that time too. Gave them a little going away ass-kicking at the Battle of New Orleans.

Battle of New Orleans was just one engagement during the war; and not a decisive battle in ending the war.

btw When the battle was fought the Treaty of Ghent had been signed a couple of weeks before and the war was already over.

Like I said before; open a history book sometime.

So, technically it wasn't "during the war," was it? It was the last battle fought and the British got their asses handed to them. They came over, they fought, they lost, they went home.

Why don't YOU crack a book, douche.

I find this very disturbing... I'd like to slap that fucking shit stain Panetta so hard his mama would have a black eye...

Defense department agrees to allow Muslim cadets to wear hijabs

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) announced today that the Department of Defense will begin allowing Muslim and Sikh students who wear an Islamic head scarf (hijab) or a turban to participate in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC).

“We welcome the fact that Muslim and Sikh students nationwide will now be able to participate fully in JROTC leadership activities while maintaining their religious beliefs and practices,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

In October, the Washington-based Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization wrote to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta after a 14-year-old Muslim student at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn., was forced to transfer out of a JROTC class when her commanding officers told her she could not wear hijab while marching in the September homecoming parade.

I don't have an issue with this at all.

Battle of New Orleans was a minor engagement that took place "after" the War was over.

It had "zero" to do with the official war and was just a feel good moment for the American people.

Who were still in shock over the British invasion of Washington DC and the burning down of the White House.

Once again Unkotare, history books are full of information; but YOU have to open them up to find out what they say.

Why is it absurd? if we are trying not to offend the Muslims and throw our service women in hijabs we might as well have dressed up our soldiers in WW2 with swastikas and painted up our soldiers in the Pacific as geisha girls, its the same fucking thing these service women are being told to wear the hijab as to not offend the Afghans. Plus that whole women not allowed on the front lines thing is bullshit, you obviously haven't been in the Military lately because women are in just as much danger as men during deployment, its not just infantry men going behind the wire and riding in convoys.

If the British had won that war, wouldn't we still be under the Queen right now as we are typing this?
