D-Day Anniversary

Today is the sixth of June. The 65th anniversary of the D Day landings. A day when we pay tribute to the men who landed on the Normandy beaches – Gold, Juno, Sword, Omaha and Utah – to begin the liberation of Western Europe. A day that we thank the dwindling ranks of old soldiers for what they did for us. A day to think about the depths of courage these heroes had to summon up on this longest day.

But above all it is a reminder to us all of what is still owed to those who fell on the Normandy beaches.

Our admiration for them does not diminish. Nor does our debt of gratitude. We cannot repay them. But we shall never forget them.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.​

i always think of flanders field where the poppies grow.....at least in other countries yall have the respected to wear real popppies on rememberance day.....

may we never forget the men who gave their lives to save the world.....dont forget they didnt fight for their individual countries but for the freedom of the world.

Imagine it?

A sea landing against perhaps the greatest army the world has ever known. Boys from the corn fields of Kansas, the sugar fields of Louisiana, the stick ball games in New York, the nuts and bolts of Detroit, all wading into that blood red sea, moving forward, risking everything they ever could be, imagine that!

Fucking thank them for that.

the details of history: after the landing our troops were in total disarray....so were the germans....the americans started finding each other....if you were the higher rank you took charge you had kids barely out of high school and a lot who flat out lied to join and were 15 ...suddenly realize there was no leader they had to decide what to do and had to regroup to fight...while the germans waited for commands from the official ranks. that was what moxie is about...

and not to mention this but where was montgomery again?

and no fw..there is no way to imagine being told that the chances of you living were slim but you were still going to hit that beach...and the 2nd wave coming out into the bloodied waters...the blood of the first wave....then the 3rd wave...no fw....there is no way to imagine pushing the dead bodies of your buddies away from you in the water because your objective lies in front of you.

Utah Beach - 23,250 American troops were landed. US 1st Army 7th and 5th US Corps
Omaha Beach - 34,250 American troops were landed. 29th and 1st US Div.

Gold Beach - 24,970 British troops were landed. 50th Division, British 2nd Army

Juno Beach - 21,400 Canadian troops were landed. 3rd Canadian Div.

Sword Beach - 28,845 British troops were landed. 3rd British Di
