Conservatives stands united against Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

There is something to be said for Teddy Roosevelt's philosophy of "Speak Softly and Carry a Big Stick". Bush just believed in carrying the big stick and threatening speech. Obama still carries the big stick, but is speaking softly now.

There is fuck all point in having a big stick if the world knows you won't use it. Obama's problem is that he has the big stick, but he forgot where he put it.

Hardly. Our military is just as strong as before and everyone still knows it.

And they also know that we won't torture. They also know we will play by the rules.

And - most importantly of all - they know our POTUS is a coward.

OSLO, Norway - Members of the Norwegian committee that gave Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize are strongly defending their choice against a storm of criticism that the award was premature and a potential liability for the U.S. president.

Asked to comment on the uproar following Friday's announcement, four members of the five-seat panel told The Associated Press that they had expected the decision to generate both surprise and criticism.

"We simply disagree that he has done nothing," committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland told the AP on Tuesday. "He got the prize for what he has done."

Jagland singled out Obama's efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe.

"All these things have contributed to — I wouldn't say a safer world — but a world with less tension," Jagland said by phone from the French city of Strasbourg, where he was attending meetings in his other role as secretary-general of the Council of Europe.

"Alfred Nobel wrote that the prize should go to the person who has contributed most to the development of peace in the previous year," Jagland said. "Who has done more for that than Barack Obama?"

Aagot Valle, a left-wing Norwegian politician who joined the Nobel panel this year, also dismissed suggestions that the decision to award Obama was without merit.

"Don't you think that comments like that patronize Obama? Where do these people come from?" Valle said by phone from the western coastal city of Bergen. "Well, of course, all arguments have to be considered seriously. I'm not afraid of a debate on the peace prize decision. That's fine."

I don't think they cared about the Taliban, Hamas, or U.S. conservatives. It was their decision and they made it. So all of you jealous conservatives need to quit whining and snivelling about it.
REALLY!?!?!?!?!

where have these tensions been relieved?
you mean radical islamofascists don't hate us still?

and btw, i don't see anyone "whining" about it
so you can STFU about that

Another one that doesn't know how to read. Both of these observations were made by the committee chairman, Thorbjoern Jagland, not I. If you want answers, write him a letter.

And you ARE whining. All of you right wing conservative bad sports. Since Friday!! Get over it.

And I want you to know that the only people that love to cuss at other people are usually young little punk teenagers. Either that's what you really are or you're a simple minded grown up that doesn't know any better.

What will shock the Conservatives even more is he goes ahead and does earn it.

Not at all, I have been saying all along (and praying to boot) that he does earn it.

Did you know that prayer is always answered?

you seem to be totally delusional at this point

Oh come on people the Odds of Obama actually acheiving world peace or even a modestly meaningful step in that direction are essentially the same as for every other president in the last half 100+ years slim to none. As long as tin pot dictators rule more than 1/3 of the countries in the world there will never be peace and we simply haven't the resources in time or money to take out every ass hat that is screwing things up.

Except that I don't think that a recipient is expected to bring about peace or even world peace. If I remember correctly the "qualifications" are something like having worked the hardest to bring about peace. I saw a link to that somewhere the other day.

In other words, one need not have been successful at bringing about peace at the time of the award, but rather the recipient has been working towards bringing about peace. Jimmy Carter won the award but had not actually brought about peace but his humanitarian efforts towards the betterment of human conditions around the world was why he received the award.

Now don't ask me how Yassar Arafat qualified, because I don't have a frigging clue!

Regarding President Obama, if he works to bring about peace throughout his term(s) and possibly later, then he could still qualify for the award. He need not bring about peace in the Middle East but if he works towards that goal, whether or not he achieved it, he would still be deserving of the award.

It's possible, though unlikely that Obama may have earned the 'prize.' However, the bar was set low, perhaps because he was a person of color? Maybe just because he was an 'acceptable' American? We'll never know. Truth is, he got it for being the non-BW. wow...sputter...fart.

The Committee gave their reasons for honoring Obama. I posted them on a prior page. A lot of people do not agree with them. Nothing wrong with that. But why are people so pissed at Obama?? It's not his fault.

This is exactly the reason the right wing fanatics are accused of being racist. The overreaction to this incident is ridiculous, as is the overreaction to any incident involving Obama. It's not normal!!! Get it????

Until this changes people will be at each other's throats.

i dont see anyone "pissed at Obama" over the Nobel prize

Except immie, I wasn't responding to the non existent standards The committee has for issuing that award - which essentially amounts to 'We will give it to whomever we damn well please" - but to what another poster had to say.

If I had been Obama I would have had my name removed from the list a soon as It first showed on the list -comme on 12 days after he takes office?

Frankly this appears more than anything else to be an unsolicited bribe based simply on the elitist snobs in Norway's racial beliefs namely he's black, he's from that corrupt cesspit Chicago, I'm sure slipping him a cool mill will get him to do what we want...

I've said it before, this year was just plain too soon. I agree the 12 days is outrageous.

I'm not sure who you were responding to without the quote.

Personally, I don't think the President should or should have refused the award. I don't think he deserved it yet, but rejecting it simply would not and does not make sense. The committee members look like jackasses, but that is not the President's responsibility.

The President should simply move on with business as usual and hopefully, if he truly wants to work towards peace he can actually accomplish something to bring about a few steps towards peace.

I'm a little miffed at him. He should have turned the award down and said, I will endevour to earn this award through action in the coming year. I appreciate the support of my thoughts on world issues. He would have garnered more world and national support with that move.

As far as other problems I have with Obama it is simply my opposition to liberal ideas and socialist leanings. I would have had close to the same problems with McCain. Moderated only by his slightly more moderate stance on most issues.

what i see most is people laughing at the stupidity of it
but then you are a brain dead obamabot

Most people are laughing at your position, divebot. You forget that you are not the majority. You lost. You will certainly lose again next year if you continue this way. And the election after that and after that.
