I have 5 Trojans and HD damage..I've been working on it for 3 days without much luck.

Recommendations for software to repair it would be appreciated..

I'll be in and out as much as I can before the final breath..

Personally, I would back up my data and re-format, but if the machine is still usable it might not hurt to try the above.
Well, I guess I'm at the re-format point. Hate it but....! I was able to re-install windows xp and it only took 19 hours!
I get alot of delayed write failed errors..I know there is a bad block on the HD.
I was hoping xp would re-install in a diff. location but I guess it dosn't....

A question..if I re-format will Xp leave some ID on the disk? The reason I ask is because the disk I have is only a re-install disk, not an origanal xp disk. I think it does but want to check before I wipe er clean..

Well I'm part of the way back. After two weeks I finally got XP to reinstall after a Format :splat: Damnit I lost so much..!!!
I'm now running in FAT32 instead of NTFS I think it was. Things seem to be okay so far.
I'm still getting a "delayed write fail, data lost" message. There is disk damage somewhere but I can get chkdsk, scandisk or even Norton Diskdoc to find it and mark it as bad. Any ideas on that?

use Zone Alarm Firewall , the basic version is free

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...st_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za

and use Avast =virus scanner/im blocker / p2p shield

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...st_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za

you have to register for avast but it is free. professional type virus defense

Spybot search and destroy is also a must . Use the immunize function.

As for your install. FAT32 is not helpful with WINXP. I do it all over again
clean start. The only other thing that can cause instability
are the video and audio drivers.

if with NTFS you harddrive still gives you trouble its time to buy
a new one. If its not a DELL crap computer it is easy and doesnt
cost much.
