Common Core

Well, yes and no. The naysayers would say schools have no biz in portraying Chavez as a justice seeker and the growers (initially) as oppressors. The proponents would say it is proper to teach about unions, farm produce, international labor, etc via Chavez's life.

.

What do they think the Grapes of Wrath was about?

A lot of Common Core lessons have been designed in partnership with the business community. For instance, the Illuminations lesson plans in the OP were created in partnership with Verizon. The business world has been lamenting for some time about the poor quality high school grads who are entering the labor force. Tomorrow's workers need to be prepared for tomorrow's jobs. There is nothing sinister about that.

It is up to each school district to decide which Common Core lessons they will use. The Illuminations curriculum is just one of many.

The idea behind Common core was alright.. But the asshats that wrote the lesson are Left Wing idiots and pushed their political agenda in the lessons.

There are no mandatory lessons.

And that has exactly WHAT to do with my statement except being a vain attempt to deflect from it and change the subject?

It was a comment upon YOUR VANITY AND HUBRIS in deciding what material might be, or might not be, appropriate for a given school or class. The common core does not list exercises or plans to be literally transplanted. If you think the passages referenced are objectionable to ALL HS girls, no matter what their life experiences have been, you are a vain, parochial, and intolerant individual. I originally intended it more politely until you injected your own hyperbole.

The far right have no idea what Common Core is, for a fact.

48 states have adopted it, and the state agencies create the Knowledge, Skills, and Assessment.

The far right, particularly the social con reactionaries, are terrified that their children will be taught differently than at home.

Solution: private school, home school.

The federal government has zero Constitutional role in education. It has historically been a state and local function and should remain as such 100%.

Common Core IS a state-sponsored initiative. Look it up.

Common Core State Standards Initiative - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an education initiative in the United States that details what K-12 students should know in English language arts and mathematics at the end of each grade. The initiative is sponsored by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and seeks to establish consistent education standards across the states as well as ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter two- or four-year college programs or enter the workforce

Add "Vouchers" and you nailed it.

In lieu of vouchers, property tax relief for those who choose to not burden public indoctrination centers (aks "schools") with their offspring.

Nope, We the People formed a social compact for this country and the states.

Your religious rights are recognized, but they do not excuse from participation in the public interest.

I really do feel sorry for kids coming up through such indoctrination.

48 of the 50 states endore it and run the educational programs, not the feds.

Your state, Texas, ends up with a mish-mash Staar that creates "Eligible Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills", very similar to the common core of the other states. When Perry leaves office, Texas will adopt the Common Core.

Look up http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/staar/ac/.

NGA is a private trade organization whose actions have no legal binding on states. Governors do vote during NGA’s two annual meetings to express shared priorities, former Virginia Gov. George Allen (R) told*School Reform News, but “by the time they vote on a position the [resolutions] get watered down so much any objections are already accommodated. It’s unlike legislatures, with committee hearings and votes.”Even so, NGA has not released what, if any, resolution 2009’s governors voted on to authorize its subsequent Common Core work. Neither has it released the vote tally. Not All Governors InvolvedEven if governors do vote on vague resolutions that have no legal power, not all attend NGA meetings.

It receives a large chunk of federal funding

WTF is your problem? Where did I say anything about HS girls?

Well the same old garbage rhetoric of blaming teachers for every one of America's huge list of failings resulted in the common core. Blame the teachers, it's their faults. More accountability, more testing, more complaining, more blaming. Now out of all that came the common core. Hope you are happy blaming things on an easy target. If your kid is struggling, look in the mirror for a good share of the blame. Leave your job where it is, come home, and work with your kid. Your job is simply that, a job. Your kid takes priority over a lousy job. Then cook a decent meal but for gosh sakes don't shove any fast food down their throat, that makes things worse. Get in touch with the teacher and ask where the deficiencies are and work at them. Do this instead of complaining.

And listen to the teachers who, if they know you really well, rail about the bureaucracy and the administrations that force them to "teach to the test", praise all things Marxist and denigrate all things capitalist.

Teachers are at the bottom of the pile and all the shit from above filters down. But they take it quietly (those who aren't part of the problem) because they know that if they are fired for telling it like it is "their" union will NOT be there for them.

HGH has not a clue about any of it. That is why education of the far right is so important.

Spoken, HBH, like a true right of center American who votes Republican, but like Boehner and McConnell and Will and Jindal and Reibus and dozens of others consider you on the far right a party of the stupid.
