The Left wants “common sense” restrictions to the First Amendment

Leftist media is simply TASS with some dressing!
Russia did it! LOL

Look the point isn't partisan. There's no vetting facts, or finding planted lies, on the internet. That should give anyone a few wrinkles.

The IRA's disinformation campaign was described in the final report by special counsel Robert Mueller, and in his indictment of multiple Russian nationals. U.S intelligence agencies assessed that the social media manipulation was part of a Russian intelligence operation designed to undermine American democracy by exacerbating divisions, hurt Democrat Hillary Clinton and help Trump. Experts say the U.S. government and American social media companies have yet to develop a strategy to prevent such manipulation from happening again. Just last week, a different cybersecurity firm exposed an Iranian effort to manipulate U.S. social media with fake accounts.

The IRA's basic strategy, Symantec found, was to use a small core of Twitter accounts to push out new content. And they harnessed a wider pool of automated accounts to amplify those messages.

The operation was carefully planned, with accounts often registered months before they were used — well in advance of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Symantec found. The average time between account creation and first tweet was 177 days.

The core group of main accounts consisted mainly of "fake news" sources masquerading as regional news outlets or political organizations. Most of them had at least 10,000 followers but followed substantially fewer accounts. They were mainly used to publish new tweets.

My point is the media is nothing but a mouthpiece for the left, and do their bidding !

A legal analyst at MSNBC argued earlier this week that there is a need for “common sense” restrictions to the First Amendment to prevent “disinformation” online.

The comments from University of Michigan law professor Barbara McQuade underscore how many on the far left now view basic American Constitutional rights.

In the context of American political discourse in the age of social media, McQuade said that the country’s “deep commitment to free speech,” a cornerstone of society, is leaving people vulnerable to being misled.

While hawking a new book she has authored called “Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America,” McQuade told MSNBC she hoped to initiate a “national conversation about truth and our commitment to [free speech].”

Oh the irony is ludicrous.
A MSNBC legal analyst is worried about "misinformation" LOL
ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT..... lie all of the time.
The Democrat Propaganda Machine churns out a daily deluge of lies every day.
And they want to be the fact checkers of the truth. LMAO
Censorship is a huge red flag for tyranny and an indication of a dangerous political cult.
The Democrats are incapable of introspection, which is another sign that they are a political cult.

One would think in the land of freedom of speech, our government, media, and big Tech would do all they can to protect this fundamental right. However, what they’re doing is the exact opposite.

When our government is actively subverting the Constitution, is this not the definition of illegality? Our government is committing crimes for which they are not being prosecuted or criticized.

America, the land of the First Amendment, has now openly toyed with the notion of “Disinformation Governance Boards,” a fancy name for what is essentially a Ministry of Truth. Universities that were supposed to be bastions of the free exchange of diverse viewpoints now silence anyone and anything even a micrometer to the right of Leon Trotsky. Our government is working hand in hand with Big Tech to have them act as censors for ideas, opinions, and facts that run contra to the narrative that they are putting out as truth, to be accepted blindly and unquestioningly without examination or critical review.

The only reason this is happening is because they no longer have a monopoly on the dissemination of information. Lacking that, as everything they have done to this country that has utterly collapsed our economy, erased our border, endangered our citizens at home, and threatened our national security abroad nearly to the point of a global conflict, the junta has no compunction about completely ignoring even the most basic red lines of ethics, morality, and the rule of law to silence all critique and squash all political opposition.

Just remember as bad as it gets here, Canada and Europe are usually ahead of us on the "silencing us for our own good"

Justice Minister defends house arrest power for people feared to commit a hate crime in future

If “there’s a genuine fear of an escalation, then an individual or group could come forward and seek a peace bond against them and to prevent them from doing certain things.”

The peace bond could have conditions that include not being close to a synagogue or a mosque, he said. It could also lead to restrictions on internet usage and behaviour. “That would help to deradicalize people who are learning things online and acting out in the real world violently – sometimes fatally.”

Mr. Virani said the bill would strike a balance, though, and would mean that content that is “awful but lawful” would remain online.

Of course they do. Like 2A restrictions

It’s common sense that a social media platform shouldn’t be required to let anyone post anything.

The left's biggest problem is they have no "common sense". They don't know what common sense is.

He was on to something way back in 1950.

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear. We must, therefore, be on our guard against extremists who urge us to adopt police state measures. Such persons advocate breaking down the guarantees of the Bill of Rights in order to get at the communists. They forget that if the Bill of Rights were to be broken down, all groups, even the most conservative, would be in danger from the arbitrary power of government.”

Social media companies aren’t the government.

Lol. So you admit you don’t know the two are colluding and essentially are one.

Can you say Fascism?
Make a rule against “colluding”, I don’t give a shit.

But government forcing social media companies to host content they don’t want to host is stupid.

social media doing the bidding of the Government when the Government is forbidden is illegal.
Then forbid it.

The discussion in the OP was about a different issue. Not that any of you guys listened to it.

Read the First Amendment. The rule is right there in black and white.

Our government has gone rogue. It breeches the Bill of Rights multiple times every day. Is this not the definition of illegal?
