But ecocide is a science problem first, a political 'controversy' second. It's a political controversy because avoiding the worst of the coming impacts are going to require major changes in policy, and that's going to go against the interests, desires, and political/ideological beliefs of a lot of people. We can either agree to make those changes ourselves, or we can just continue as we are and let the inevitable shit show unfold.

Ecocide would be a cooling planet, not a warming planet. So I will never agree that a relatively weak GHG is anything more than it is which is 1C of incremental surface temperature per doubling of CO2. That's what the simple physics of radiative forcing calculates. And even that probably won't be realized at the surface because of convective currents which moves the heat away from the surface of the planet just like it does for all GHG in the atmosphere.

1C per doubling of CO2 is not an underestimation. It's the calculated value using physics.

The theoretical incremental surface temperature of an incremental 120 ppm (i.e. almost halfway to doubling) is ~0.5C. That's the most it can be. So if you say temperatures have increased by 1.5C, then 1.0C is due to natural warming as the planet returning to its pre-glacial temperature before plunging into the next glacial period which it has been doing for ~3 million years.
