NASA's Hansen prefers rule by decree to fight 'global warming'

November's election made it quite clear that the people of the United States do not want to radically change our society in the name of global warming. Pretty much every close House race went to the Republicans, while the Democrats won all the Senate squeakers. The difference? The House on June 26, 2009, passed a bill limiting carbon-dioxide emissions and getting into just about every aspect of our lives. The Senate did nothing of the sort.

The nation's most prominent publicly funded climatologist is officially angry about this, blaming democracy and citing the Chinese government as the "best hope" to save the world from global warming. He also wants an economic boycott of the U.S. sufficient to bend us to China's will.

NASA laboratory head James Hansen's anti-democracy rants were published while he was on a November junket in China, but they didn't get much attention until recently. On Jan. 12, the hyperprolific blogger Marc Morano put them on his Climate Depot site, and within hours, the post went viral. In a former life, Mr. Morano was chief global-warming researcher for Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican.

According to Mr. Hansen, compared to China, we are "the barbarians" with a "fossil-money- 'democracy' that now rules the roost," making it impossible to legislate effectively on climate change. Unlike us, the Chinese are enlightened, unfettered by pesky elections. Here's what he blogged on Nov. 24:

"I have the impression that Chinese leadership takes a long view, perhaps because of the long history of their culture, in contrast to the West with its short election cycles. At the same time, China has the capacity to implement policy decisions rapidly. The leaders seem to seek the best technical information and do not brand as a hoax that which is inconvenient."

Has this guy ever heard of the Gang of Four? Or the Cultural Revolution, which killed those who were inconvenient? Or the Great Leap Forward, which used the best technical information to determine that a steel mill in every backyard was a good idea?

Mr. Hansen has another idea to circumvent our democracy. Because Congress is not likely to pass any legislation making carbon-based energy prohibitively expensive, he proposed, in the South China Morning Post, that China lead a boycott of our economy:

"After agreement with other nations, e.g., the European Union, China and these nations could impose rising internal carbon fees. Existing rules of the World Trade Organization would allow collection of a rising border duty on products from all nations that do not have an equivalent internal carbon fee or tax.

Not to worry, fellow. No matter how scientists such as Hansen phrase it, or state it, no one is going to listen in this nation. And as it hits the fan, the people that have caused this situation, the voters of this nation, will turn to these scientists saying " What can you do?". And the answer will be "Nothing".

Research and Markets: Global Warming & the Insurance Industry 2010 - Analysing the Impact Global Warming & Climate Change Have on the Insurance Industry
DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Research and Markets (Global Warming & the Insurance Industry - Market Research Reports - Research and Markets) has announced the addition of the "Global Warming & the Insurance Industry" report to their offering.

Global warming refers to the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation.

Though it is difficult to connect specific weather events to global warming, an increase in global temperatures may in turn cause other changes, including glacial retreat and worldwide sea level rise. Changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation may result in flooding and drought. There may also be changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Other effects may include changes in agricultural yields, reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions and increases in the range of disease vectors.

Throughout their history, insurance companies have done more than collect premiums and pay claims. They've made the world a safer place - by promoting fire prevention, lobbying for building codes, testing the crash-worthiness of cars and rating vehicles for safety.

Now some insurers are worried by the threat to their business posed by climate change. And they are starting to see what, if anything, they can do about it.

This report presents Global Warming & the Insurance Industry - a new research report which analyzes the impact global warming and climate change is having on the insurance industry, which some say is the worst hit industry when it comes to battling and getting over the growing number of natural disasters

Funny that OldRocks thinks that Insurance Companies are there to help us in time of need. Because he certainly hates Insurance Companies when it comes to Health Care doesn't he?

Insurance companies will make any kind of policy you want and can afford for whatever purpose you can think up. They're just in it for the money and if you think otherwise, urine idiot.

Do you recall Van Halen singer David Lee Roth insuring himself for 1 Million dollars against paternity claims? Or Mariah Carrey insuring her legs for 1 Billion (Yes Billion) dollars?

And why did those insurance companies make the policies? Because they know that can make money off them that's why. Insurance companies are getting into the Global Warming Scam insurance business because there's money in it, not because they actually believe in any of that shit.

And there it is, folks. AGW isn't about the environment. It's about government control over individual lives.

The Chinese are both the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases at present, and also the biggest investor in alternative energies. Were we to simply turn off our emissions by some magic, the GHG content of the atmosphere would continue to go up at pre-1990 levels because of the Chinese emissions.

So Hansen is correct. If we are to get a handle on reducing GHG emissions, the Chinese are the key. Of course, if they should choose to lead in the change over, it will just be another field in which they have seized the initiative from the US, Japan, and Europe.

I guess the thousands of factories and jobs shipped to China under the Bush admin says even more.

Were the Chinese leaders not doing something correctly, they would not now be our primary economic competition.

I think it probably has more to do with the fact that they have to overpay some person like you, you make what 25 bucks an hour? While they can pay a Chinese individual .57 cents per hour. I think it is pretty obvious why industry is moving to China. You are vastly overpaid for the poor work you do. Better watch out I hear Evraz is getting ready to move as well.

Good Luck Competing Against Chinese Labor Costs Manufacturing Job Growth In China Is Headed Up, Not Down; 109 Million Manufacturing Workers In China Dwarfs Number In U.S.

Which fields have they "seized the initiative"? Oh.. You mean in software piracy, computer system hacking in an attempt to steal our military technology? Or do you mean making deals to steal the resources of Africa or deals to drill for oil while idiots like Obama continue to limit our own drilling. Anybody who believes that carbon dioxide is causing global warming is simply brainwashed, so while people in this country and throughout the free world buy into this crap, China will just keep doing what they do
