Business As Usual

Is it possible that environmentalists and their supporters will actually learn from data, and experience?

Ever?

I know it's wrong to laugh at the congenitally stupid.....but...my guilty pleasure.

1. This was the final word from the Left...you know, along the lines of the Al Gore "the debate is over" kinda thing....

"FEB. 7, 2014 ... hundreds of millions of people will watch Americans like Ted Ligety and Mikaela Shiffrin ski for gold on the downhill alpine course. Television crews will pan across epic vistas of the rugged Caucasus Mountains, draped with brilliant white ski slopes. What viewers might not see is the 16 million cubic feet of snow that was stored under insulated blankets last year to make sure those slopes remained white, or the hundreds of snow-making guns that have been running around the clock to keep them that way.

....climatologist Daniel Scott, a professor of global change and tourism at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, to analyze potential venues for future Winter Games. His thought was that with a rise in the average global temperature of more than 7 degrees Fahrenheit possible by 2100, there might not be that many snowy regions left in which to hold the Games. He concluded that of the 19 cities that have hosted the Winter Olympics, as few as 10 might be cold enough by midcentury to host them again. By 2100, that number shrinks to 6.

....more than half of the 103 ski resorts may no longer be viable in 30 years because of warmer winters."

2. "The facts are straightforward: The planet is getting hotter. Snow melts above 32 degrees Fahrenheit."
Ibid.

Yikes!!!!

No more Frosty?????

3. OK...cue the hand wringing...and throw in some anti-capitalism...
"So it has been a surprise to see the winter sports community, as one of the first populations to witness effects of climate change in its own backyard, not reacting more vigorously and swiftly to reverse the fate we are writing for ourselves.

It’s easy to blame the big oil companies and the billions of dollars they spend on influencing the media and popular opinion." [a proven lie.]
Ibid.

4. And...now for the obligatory 'studies say....'
"Much of these environmental data come from a 2012 report, “Climate Impacts on the Winter Tourism Economy in the United States,” by two University of New Hampshire researchers,..."
Ibid.

5. This is the best: predicting a three-season year:
"a start-up advocacy group called Protect Our Winters. ... known as POW, in 2007 when he realized that many of the slopes he had once ridden no longer held snow. It has since become the leading voice for those fighting to save winter, ..."
Ibid.
(Now named "Chicken-Littles Untied")

6. And....now for the ever-popular 'it's all over! Run for the snowless hills!"
"The truth is, it is too late for all of that. Greening the ski industry is commendable, but it isn’t nearly enough. Nothing besides a national policy shift on how we create and consume energy will keep our mountains white in the winter — and slow global warming to a safe level."
Ibid.

What would Liberals do if they didn't have the warnings from the NYTimes to discuss during group hugs at their cocktail parties???

I mean, really.

the models are predicting 4C (7F) warming by the end of the century. so far, after 15 years, you would be hard pressed to make an argument that there has been any warming.

I think the ski slopes, arctic sea ice, etc might be a lot safer than newspaper headlines make them out to be.

Whether global warming is fake or not, doesn't matter. It has no glaring affect on the economy or anything else. She simply exposes the radical wacko environmentalists who are against ANY kind of use of natural resources. We do have to use them wisely and having large chunks of land set aside to keep pristine is also an idea that any sane person would support.

Earlier, I was surprised....amazed....by the depth and breath of stupidity in some post...but, generally, I've come to accept it....become jaded to the abject idiocy.

But this one....

"Whether global warming is fake or not, doesn't matter. It has no glaring affect on the economy or anything else."

The prize winner, right here.

I the contest rule was to comment on a subject, topic, issue about which one has less than zero knowledge.....well....you get the brass ring.

I call her- PoliticalSpice. She wouldn't be so bad if she used all that pent-up rw energy and applied to some college/university. As it is now, she's some girl w/ a high school- level education (at best) blathering all over the forum w/ her randian pipe dreams
More educated than you eh?

Ol' PoliticalShit believes that the whole of the scientific community, in all nations, is in on a vast conspiracy to present fraudulent information to the rest of us. She is definately deep into little tin hat territory.
shes a tin foiler :tinfoil: alright ;) No wonder she blathers here as much as she does, she  has a captive audience.
better than using shrink wrap like you.

and she is correct!!

Real information delivered by real scientists. Now PoliticalShit, isn't this so much better than cut and paste stupidity?

where's the data from the satellite? Let's see the hot spots.

"Skeptics like Reiter, Christy, Spencer and Tim Ball, who studies the history of climate change and heads the Natural Resources Stewardship Project [http://www.nrsp.com/], are often smeared as "deniers," lumped in with Holocaust deniers and accused of being "on the take" from energy businesses." Gore impugns skeptical scientists by saying "the illusion of a debate has been purchased."

But the scientists I interviewed don't get money from business.

Some get threatened. Ball received an e-mail that said: "You will not live long enough to see global warming!"

Is this what the global-warming debate has come to?"

LOL. So Timmy baby claims that someone threatoned him. An e-mail, from an unknown source, right? In the meantime, your GOP corksmoker was attempting to prosecute Dr. Mann for publishing a paper in a peer reviewed journal.

I love the fear you have of The GOP. You make me laugh

NASA Reaches for Muzzle as Renowned Climate Scientist Speaks Out Union of Concerned Scientists

While Dr. Hansen's scientific standing is unquestionable—he was described by CBS' 60 Minutes as "arguably the world's leading researcher on global warming"¹—administration officials found some of his conclusions politically inconvenient. In a lecture at the December 2005 meeting of the American Geophysical Union, Dr. Hansen argued that the earth will become "a different planet" without U.S. leadership in cutting global greenhouse gas emissions.² This position conflicted with the Bush administration's policy of opposing mandatory reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. In January 2006, NASA publicized data showing that 2005 was likely the warmest year in over a century.³

In January 2006, Dr. Hansen told Andrew Revkin of the New York Times that he was warned of "dire consequences" if he continued to make similar statements. Revkin reported that George Deutsch, a public affairs officer appointed by the White House, denied a request from National Public Radio to interview Dr. Hansen, calling NPR the country's "most liberal" media outlet and arguing that his job was "to make the president look good."4Mr. Deutsch later resigned after it was revealed that he had fabricated his own academic credentials.5

Arguing that his loyalty was to NASA's mission statement, which then read in part "to understand and protect our home planet," Dr. Hansen refused to be silenced. ''Communicating with the public seems to be essential,'' the Times reported him as saying, ''because public concern is probably the only thing capable of overcoming the special interests that have obfuscated the topic."6

So poor little Timmy got an e-mail. Nothing like getting pressure from the White House.

The Attorney General of Virginia's climate science investigation was a "Civil Investigative Demand" initiated in April 2010 by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for a wide range of records held by the University of Virginia related to five grant applications for research work by a leading climate scientist Michael E. Mann who was an assistant professor at the university from 1999 to 2005. The demand was issued under the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act in connection with claims by Cuccinnelli that Mann had possibly violated state fraud laws in relation to five research grants, by allegedly manipulating data. No evidence of wrongdoing was presented to support the claim. Mann's earlier work had been targeted by climate change skeptics in the hockey stick controversy, and allegations against him were renewed in late 2009 in the Climatic Research Unit email controversy but found to be groundless in a series of investigations.[1][2]

Widespread concerns were raised by University of Virginia's faculty and numerous scientists and science organizations that Cuccinelli's actions posed a threat to academic freedom, and would have a chilling effect on research in the state. The university filed a court petition and the judge dismissed Cuccinelli's demand on the grounds that no justification had been shown for the investigation.[3] Cuccinelli tried to re-open his case by issuing a revised subpoena,[4] and appealed the case to the Virginia Supreme Court. The case was defended by the university, and the court ruled that Cuccinelli did not have the authority to make these demands. The outcome was hailed as a victory for academic freedom.[5][6]

Then the asshole ran for governor. Fortunately the people of Virginia recognized him for the idiot he truly is.
