Bohner: Shutdown Govt good for the Democrats

The democrats want this circus, which is why they keep doing the continuing resolution nonsense. The budget and appropriations bills should have been passed in October of Last year.

They were too busy doing a cram down of health are to worry about their budget responsibilities. If they had done their job, we wouldn't be in this position. And they still refuse to do any funding for more than several weeks at a time. They badly want this drama.

You're right about that. The Democrats want this farce to continue. That's why the President has called for no more temporary extensions, because the Democrats love them. Wait, I'm lost now.

This is all good. How many of the cons on this board have been advocating for a shutdown? Too many to list. Once the families of our armed forces start getting evicted because they can't pay their bills, we will see how much they like it.

Boehner: Democrats

House Speaker John Boehner told his caucus Tuesday that Democrats would probably “win” the political battle if the government shuts down on Friday. “The Democrats think they benefit from a government shutdown. I agree,” Boehner said—and several of his colleagues who were there for the 1995 shutdown backed him up. Still, Boehner made little progress with the White House and Senate Democrats at an 80-minute meeting; he is said to have demanded $40 billion in cuts, a $7 billion hike from the $33 billion they had been discussing

Well, um...DUH!

You just gotta love partisan hacks like Boehner controlling our country.....

Hey Dems, don't bother voting next election because having a Dem Senate and a Dem president means that Republican control the country by just having the house... In fact even when Dems had the super majority in the Senate/House and the President the Republicans had near ful control.

You mean how many conservatives want a balanced budget... Anyone can barrow and spend, lolz. Like Bush, like Obama!

No. They wanted a shut down. They elected these idiots for just such action, and here they are delivering for their voters. Just like they wanted.

Tea Party: Bring on a government shutdown - CNN.com

Such commitment to the cause of shrinking the government explains why Tea Party supporters, including some members of Congress they helped elect, welcome a possible government shutdown as soon as midnight Friday. Bringing to a halt what they consider to be a bloated and misguided federal government would be a tangible success for their citizen activism that claims allegiance to no single party.

I'll bet Boehner is pissed that that comment made the news.

LOL CNN!

Dood, people want a budget... Of course even I welcome a Government shutdown over barrowing 2 trillion more to expand more Government. It's not that (for the most part) people want a Government shutdown, it's that people would rather get a real budget than let it slide yet again. Peopele didn't vote in members of congress to do a shutdown lolz.

What are your feeling, do you want the US to barrow trillions more to pretend that we are doing fine? How fast would this recorvery be moving (not that it is lol) if we didn't pay people to be unemployed?

I hope they stay closed until 100s of billions are on the chopping block. Otherwise, screw em, stay the hell on vacation.

I see your 100 billion and raise you a quadrillion dollars.

Oh wait, you're serious?

Oh, yes. I'm serious. We need to be cutting hundreds of billions on a yearly basis. So, you're enjoying the spend fest carnival?

Of course. It's in the Democrats best interest to shut down the government. We have a major fiscal crises and the Democrats will not let this go to waste. They seem to have a problem with budgets, yet the Republicans will be blamed for this. Go figure. :cuckoo:

If this were a fight over the entire budget, I would welcome the debate. But it's over funding the government for the rest of THIS fiscal year, and the tea party caucus, which has become a thorn in the side of Speaker Boehner, doesn't understand that THEY do NOT have total power over the legislative process dealing with a continuing resolution only. Boehner is just now discovering how difficult it is to keep his own herd in line. He thought it was easy when he was saying NO to Democrats, but not so much with his own people.

Because what our economy needs is even more unemployment, right?

Those that would be hurt the most are not the ones with 6-digit salaries, but the thousands of government employees in support positions, contractors who also employ thousands of people. They all depend on their paychecks to pay the mortgage or rent AND they'll also stop spending at the retail level, which will drop the consumer confidence index back down again. Depending on how long it goes on, any gains in the overall economic picture could be wiped out. Who would those people blame? Obviously the party that people like Lord Brown Trout supports who just says "screw 'em."

As they should. The Tea Baggers are orchestrating this and Boehner is too afraid of them to steer a different course. There are enough votes in the House to pass a compromise budget with $33 billion in tax cuts. But that's not good enough for Boehner. He wants a budget that all GOP reps will vote aye. That is insane considering the GOP reps in the house.

What compromise budget is that? The only ones offering a budge are the republicans. The democrats just offer continuing resolutions

It's hardly the Democrats who have kept floating this balloon. Both sides agreed on Paul Ryan's initial reduction of $33 billion and it was the tea party republicans who said no, and demanded $100 billion.

Obama has said he will not sign another continuing resolution. :clap2:

The Dems won't even approve a bill to pay the troops fighting our wars overseas during this shutdown. Tells you where their priorities are. Party above all else. To Dems, funding abortion and cowboy poetry is more important than paying a soldier to support his family.

The military, including the Coast Guard, are considered "essential services" and they will not be furloughed, cowboy.

For the lawmakers who have screwed us with entitlements, endless wars, broken budget, yeah screw em. I never said anything about the laborer.

BULLSHIT!!!
The GOP are the ones adding abortion and environmental POISON PILLS to a "budget bill" to guarantee a shutdown!!!
just as was the case in Wisconsin the republicans are using the budget as cover to force passage of some of their agenda.

that's why if and when there is a shutdown they'll take the blame. Democrats will simply say they were fine on the numbers, but believed those issues should be left to their own debate - and people will agree.

What they'll rightfully say is that they were willing to compromise at $33 billion, but not on dramatic policy changes in midstream as Ed says. Also, that kind of compromise is a clear indication that the Democrats are willing to compromise when there is full debate over the fiscal 2012 budget. But Republicans are continuing their just-say-no attitude. This will backfire on Republicans, no doubt about it. (And I think Boehner knows it too.)

Typical CON$ervative dishonesty in leaving out the fact that the military funding bill contains an abortion rider as a poison pill. What does an abortion rider have to do with military spending, other than the GOP playing politics with the soldiers fighting abroad by putting their Party first?!!!

The tea party has invented something new: A reverse earmark (a subtraction rather than addition). I wonder what color-code it will be assigned. "Earmarks" are yellow stickies, so maybe they'll choose RED. Yeah, a fierce RED.

No, but many of the noobie tea partiers recently elected are too inexperienced to understand that just because they say cut the budget, shut down the government, overturn the health care bill, doesn't mean it can actually get done by flipping some switch. It's not as easy as holding up some stupid sign at a rally.

Which brings to mind a question: Are they still reading the Constitution before the start of each session in the House? If so, it apparently still hasn't sunk in that we have three completely separate bodies that are responsible for enacting laws.

So only veteran lawmakers should not collect a salary during a shutdown but the newer recently elected tea partiers should? I'd like to hear more of how you would break down who should and who should not get screwed.

Hey, at least if the national zoos are closed, a few engineers with Ph.D's who can't find work since their jobs are now being done in India could get temporary jobs cleaning up elephant shit.
