You Doubted That Liberals are Fascists????

First witness: Mayor Michael Bloomberg...Liberal?
Michael Bloomberg Ain't No Liberal!

OK....sometimes he looked like one.....When former NYC Mayor Miguelito Bloomberg was getting hammered for mandating soft drink sizes for New Yorkers, I posted that, crazy as some of his views are, he continued Rudy Giuliani's economic and police policies.
I gave him an 'atta-boy'!

My recent OP on 'Liberals as Fascists,' based on Democrat attempts to restrict freedom of speech created a stir among many of our mindless Leftists, wounded by the truth therein.
And some of 'em got really vicious! Truth hurts?

His testimony in my cause is Bloomberg's commencement speech at Harvard; it is the perfect companion piece for that OP.

1." CAMBRIDGE — Michael R. Bloomberg implored Harvard University graduates Thursday to ardently defend the rights of others, citing what he described as growing intolerance for different religions, political ideas, and even college commencement speakers.

2. “Tolerance for other people’s ideas and the freedom to express your own are . . . perpetually vulnerable to the tyrannical tendencies of monarchs, mobs, and majorities, and lately we’ve seen those tendencies manifest themselves too often, both on college campuses and in our society,”....

3. Bloomberg also condemned how, he said, college campuses seem to increasingly profess only liberal viewpoints and refuse to listen to conservative ideas. “

a. "A liberal arts education must not be the art of liberalism,” he said.

4. ....he was disturbed by how numerous commencement speakers either had invitations rescinded or decided themselves to cancel appearances amid protests over their views or actions.

Gee....not according to oblivious Liberals, such as Synthaholic, who posted:

"No students shut down any commencement speeches. Some students protested speakers, but none of the potential speakers were denied their first amendment right to free speech.

This is fact, and it is undeniable."

Oops! Turns out it is deniable.
The dope provided a distinction without a difference.

5. “The more we embrace the free exchange of ideas and the more we accept that political diversity, the healthier we are and the stronger our society will be,”...."
In Harvard commencement speech, Michael Bloomberg assails lack of political diversity at college campuses - Metro - The Boston Globe

6. "“Attempting to restrict my freedoms in ways you would not restrict your own leads only to injustice. We can’t deny others’ rights and privileges that we demand for ourselves. And that’s true in our cities, and it’s no less true [at our educational institutes].”

a. Bloomberg directed this advice toward recent reports of commencement speakers being asked to shy away from appearances at schools this season due to protests based on their political or personal beliefs. He said in each of these cases—Brandeis University and Smith College included—a person’s voice was silenced and they were denied an honorary degree because they were deemed politically controversial.

[Yup....eminently deniable.]

b. “This is an outrage and we must not let it continue,” Bloomberg said, adding that it’s critical that censorship and conformity—the enemies of freedom—don’t win out. “Isn’t the purpose of a university to stir discussion, not silence it? It’s morally and pedagogically wrong to deny other students from hearing a speech.”

7. ... it’s a school’s obligation to teach them not what to think, but how to think critically, including listening to the other side and considering other people’s points of view. “The more we accept political diversity, the healthier we are, and the stronger our society will be,” ...."

Ohhhh....so that's why Synthaholic got it wrong!

Bloomberg, the richest man in NYC support, repeats, exactly what I've been saying about our Liberal universities as indoctrination centers!

8. "Bloomberg: Universities becoming bastions of intolerance... criticized what he described as a disturbing trend of liberals silencing voices "deemed politically objectionable."

9. "This spring, it has been disturbing to see a number of college commencement speakers withdraw -- or have their invitations rescinded -- after protests from students and -- to me, shockingly -- from senior faculty and administrators who should know better," Bloomberg said.

a. .... cited an October speech during which his ex-police commissioner, Ray Kelly, was shouted down by students at Brown University.
The university canceled Kelly's speech when protesters opposed to the police department's stop-and-frisk policy shouted down and interrupted Kelly.

b. He pointed to Rutgers, where former U.S. Secretary of StateCondoleezza Rice withdrew amid protests, and Smith College, where International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde withdrew after a student petition.

Turns out it is more than deniable....it is utterly false.

“It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.”
― Ronald Reagan

10. "In each case, liberals silenced a voice -- and denied an honorary degree -- to individuals they deemed politically objectionable. This is an outrage,"

a. "Today, on many college campuses, it is liberals trying to repress conservative ideas, even as conservative faculty members are at risk of becoming an endangered species," he said."

So....what is the difference between Liberals and Fascists??

........wait....wait........give me a minute.......

Jeezz....I'm really startin' to miss Bloomberg!

The Harvard elite are probably regretting inviting him to speak such blasphemy at their alter of collectivist utopia. Bet it won't happen again.

Bloomberg:

“There’s a word for that idea: censorship. And it is just a modern-day form of McCarthyism..."

"Think about the irony: In the 1950s, the right wing was attempting to repress left wing ideas. Today, on many college campuses, it is liberals trying to repress conservative ideas even as conservative faculty members are at risk of becoming an endangered species.”

“There was more disagreement among the old Soviet politburo than there is among Ivy League donors...”

Catch the guy behind him, to his Left.

I thought Screamin' Jay Hawkins was dead?????

Bloomberg is a perfect example of the shortcomings of the LEFT/RIGHT paradigm. Bloomberg is not a liberal -he is not a conservative. he is a centrist authoritarian.

He'd be right below Hitler on this axis....

He's an arrogant asshole who knows everything. He knows best. Just ask him!

He has to tac a little right now to get moderates onboard his brand of tyranny if he runs for President

What have we confirmed?
Liberals are bullies who make every attempt to shut down opposing opinions rather than confronting them.
And they do it in the most low-life manner, including shouting down speakers, not allowing invitations, having tenure denied, and promotions held back

Exactly how they treated blacks in the South.

11. "Bloomberg To Harvard Students: Campus Liberals Have Become Ideological Censors.... told students not to “major in intolerance,” and to uphold freedom of speech no matter how much they disagree with another person’s viewpoint.

At one time, Bloomberg said, tenure was intended to protect liberal professors from running afoul of conservative norms, but now, it must also protect the opposite."
Bloomberg At Harvard: Campus Liberals Have Become Ideological Censors « CBS New York

Remember this?
In January 2005, at a Conference on Diversifying the Science & Engineering Workforce sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research, Larry Summers sparked controversy with his discussion of why women may have been underrepresented "in tenured positions in science and engineering at top universities and research institutions".
Lose your job for posing the question???

12. " Academic feminists who received tenure, promotion, and funding, tended to be pro-abortion, pro-pornography (anti-censorship), pro-prostitution (pro-sex workers), pro-surrogacy, and anti-colonialist, anti-imperialist, and anti-American…proponents of simplistic gender-neutrality (women and men are exactly the same) or essentialist: men and women are completely different, and women are better. They are loyal to their careers and their cliques, not to the truth....."
“The Death of Feminism,” by Phyllis Chesler

a. "Universities have become to Liberalism what a Christian seminary is to Christianity. The difference is that Christian seminaries acknowledge their purpose, to produce committed Christians."
Dennis Prager

Liberals are the bullies?

Conservatives put a lot of effort into bullying universities into following the right's dictates on what is or isn't politically correct.

I realize how much easier that would be on you.....but a far better solution to the real problem is for you to get an education.

True story.

13. "Tolerance for other people’s ideas and the freedom to express your own are inseparable values. Joined, they form a sacred trust that holds the basis of our democratic society. But that trust is perpetually vulnerable to the tyrannical tendencies of monarchs, mobs and majorities.
...in the Ivy League.

In the 2012 presidential race, 96 percent of all campaign contributions from Ivy League faculty and employees went to Barack Obama. That statistic, drawn from Federal Election Commission data, should give us pause -- and I say that as someone who endorsed President Obama. When 96 percent of faculty donors prefer one candidate to another, you have to wonder whether students are being exposed to the diversity of views that a university should offer.

.... if students graduate with ears and minds closed, the university has failed both the student and society."

14. ""There is an idea floating around college campuses — including here at Harvard — that scholars should be funded only if their work conforms to a particular view of justice," he said. "There's a word for that idea: censorship.

"There was more disagreement among the old Soviet politburo than there is among Ivy League donors."

"Neither party has a monopoly of truth or God on its side," Bloomberg said. "

In conclusion.....some dunce wanted me to change my name due to his A.D.D.

But.....if we're changing names.....how about changing the 'Democrat Party' to 'the Censorship Party......I think the names Fascist and Communist are already taken.

"...to teach them not what to think, but how to think critically,..."

Ohhhh....so that's why Synthaholic got it wrong!

From what I know of Bloomberg I only have two "beefs" with him. The first is pretty minor and has to do with his attempt to legislate what size and type of beverage a person could consume.

But my number one HUGE problem I have with him is his funding of the anti-2nd Amendment groups. He came to Colorado and helped push some anti-gun, draconian legislation. Fortunately, pro-gun Coloradans responded by recalling three State Congressmen in recall elections. One of the gun-haters quit before her recall election took place because she saw the writing on the wall.

So I do commend Bloomberg for scolding the University Liberals but I still don't see him as an ally to folks who stand by and defend the Constitution.

was that the BIG GULP 'tyranny' ?

at least bloomberg is smart enough to understand the difference between local ordinances and federal government policies...

college kids today are like every other young generation...they think they know it all and every deep thought they're the first who's ever thunk it! typical youthful idealism barely realizes all they don't yet know about life...

i applaud bloomberg for what he said at harvard, yet i don't take it as a rebuke of liberalism but of stubborn close mindedness...
