Too funny. Everywhere they've tried to eliminate coal, they were forced to bring it back because coal is just too good of a concentrated energy source to do without, and methane, while being a potent GHG, is also what gives NG its kick and what gets burned off when you burn it.

The idiots in DC need to learn that you cannot eliminate one (major) source of energy until you have something at least as good or better to replace it with.

Solar panels and wind farms don't come within a mile.

BS. Nothing happens that quick. Just how many "new" coal plant were under construction. Any?
As for Natural Gas, he approved a huge natural gas project in southern Alaska recently. We are the world's largest producer of Natural gas followed by Russia about 200,000(million m³ behind us) and several times any other country below that level. Natural gas is another BIG DOLLAR$ Big Trade Deficit Reducer, the uncle Joe is not going to kill.
Looks like the Trumpers will have to dream on, for an issue, as production is scheduled to grow.

But, even no new coal plants…doesn’t that put us behind, when China is building new plants..isn’t the rest of the world building new plants as needed? But the US isn’t?

The last coal plant was built in 2013
They are building 2 new reactors in Georgia but the next last nuclear power plant was built in 2016.

Biden doesn’t want any new coal plants, and wind and solar just aren’t good enough to power our future. With the EV mandates coming down the line, we are going to need MUCH more power and a massive overhaul of our electric grid as well as expansion of it.

Isn’t he selling us short by stopping any new plants from being built?

Now this is reasonable debate. No screaming about 60% of our power going away instantly.

Coal plants have an average lifespan of 50 years and and can be to last much longer. It is a good way to encourage other sources of energy.

That being said, you may have a point, but at some point we have to stop using fossil fuels. It is a dirty way to produce energy.
