I think that both ends now confuse collaboration with capitulation. The best collaboration can yield something more important -- innovation. Like our Constitution. And since both parties then have skin in the game, both parties have a vested interest in making it work. Sadly, it appears we've lost that skill, a skill that played a large role in making America great in the first place.

Is it reasonable to want changes? Sure. But it's then the tactics and behaviors in advocating for those changes that matter.

Britain's violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.

Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world's most dangerous countries.

The figures comes on the day new Home Secretary Alan Johnson makes his first major speech on crime, promising to be tough on loutish behaviour.

The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 920 and South Africa 1,609.

One of the biggest reasons that we have a falling life expectancy, is because of the murder rate.

Bernie wants to cut the US prison population in half.
Bernie Sanders just promised to cut the nation's prison population in half

Bernie wants to give convicted felons, including murderers the right to vote.
Bernie Sanders says even 'terrible people' in prison for crimes like the Boston Marathon bombing should be allowed to vote

How giving murderers, and releasing murderers, going to reduce murder? And if it doesn't, then life expectancy will continue to be low and or falling.

I've been to Canada, and I know people who live there. I pay far less in Taxes in the US, than they pay in Canada.

Would I rather have Canadian tax rates, or US insurance premiums? Clearly insurance is cheaper, than the cost of taxes there. Left-wingers here in the US may convince you that everyone is just somehow dying under insurance premiums, but it's simply not true.

Regardless, Bernie's plan said it would take a 6% tax increase. 6% of my wage today, is more than I have ever paid for health insurance in my life.

Moreover, Bernie is full of crap. Even single-payer universal health care advocacy groups in the US, claim it would take at least 12% in taxes.

Take my company where I work. Most of the people where I work, make $30,000 a year. 12% of that is $300 a month. The most expensive health insurance plan our company offers, is $250 for a family plan. That's the top tier, gold plan, with the lowest deductions. You can easily get a family plan for $150.

Point being, for the vast majority of society, private insurance is far cheaper than government run crap.

And honestly Jim, I have never had to wait more than 30 minutes at a private hospital, or wait longer than 4 days to see a doctor or a specialist. People come down here from Canada to get health care all the time. Every single week.

Bernie's heart is not in the right place. Bernie is a millionaire, that complains about rich people, while being a millionaire. Bernie says we should have a $15 minimum wage, but refused to pay even his own campaign staff $15 an hour.

Bernie's socialist ideals have been tried dozens of times in human history, and have failed consistently. Bernie was even kicked out of his own commune, because he was lazy.

As far as Canadians being more educated...... Our public school system is the most highly socialized system in the US. If you Canadians are in fact more educated than US citizens when we pay a ton more on education than you do in Canada...... that is clear concise proof, that Bernie's ideology is bad.

Veterans are screwed..... we agree. But the VA is a 100% socialized system. The VA health care system..... *IS* the government. Why would we want government running more stuff, when it can't even run the few things it's got?

Canada may have better education..... I'm assuming you mean K-12 education, not higher education, because we have the majority of the top ranked universities in the world.

So maybe that have better K-12 education... but again.... that's government. K-12 is entirely government run and controlled. It's a socialized system. That's why it sucks.

As far as crime, safety and life-expectancy.... those are connected. We have a huge problem with crime, and murder. Shockingly...... SHOCKINGLY.... murdering a 20 year old, seems to have a negative impact on life expectancy statistics.

Canada always ranks better than the US in health, education, life expectancy, safety. Crimes, and the over all well being of its citizens. Jealous ?

That's nice, still doesn't change the fact that we can the beat the shit out of Canada and the tiny population of Canucks that inhabit it whenever we feel like it.

The only reason Canada isn't a U.S. Territory is that it's just too fucking cold to bother with, so just enjoy your position as a U.S. pet and keep your opinions to yourself.

Wont change the fact that canada takes care of its citizens while America rather spends trillions of dollars on the war machine which enriches the 1%, while screwing the majority even the veterans.

Oh quite the opposite. It's undeniable the positive effect the United States has had on the world, and continues to have. The first real democracy in human history, listen to Christopher Hitchens brag about the states and you'll capture how I feel.
It's just in recent years that there's been a real sharp down turn of core US ideologies in both the government and popular opinion.

Human societies adopt from one another, the things that made the US great, have been replicated in other places en-mass.

No I wouldn't argue this point - I would argue that there is an urgent need for deep introspection in your country. Swindlers and demagogues rule the land.

Black and White thinking must be avoided. This isn't a trash post about the US. Just an honest opinion. There can be both good and bad things about the states at the same time.

The people of Hong Kong are waving US flags as I type in their fight for personal liberty. There is no other flag in the history of man that would be appropriate for that right now.

Unfortunately the US isn't punishing China for their actions in HK, but simply for monetary reasons, and your president barely nods at the people fighting for their freedom.

I'm sure this would disgust many of your great presidents, and it should disgust Americans.

If only the people of HK understood they could be left abandoned by their symbol of freedom like the Kurds...

You might want to remember, it was your British common wealth that abandoned HK. Perhaps you should petition them to intercede.
