An asylum seeker is suing the state, claiming he has been served up sickening food at a Waterford refugee centre. The Irish Daily Mail reports that 36 yer old Zineedine Kelbouz believes his health has been damaged by food he has eaten. He had been staying at Waterford's Viking House but was moved to another centre in Longford after allegedly making an abusive remark to staff after he was refused the option of yogurt and bananna for breakfast. He denies this and now wants to be returned to Waterford with a recommendation that his diet is better catered for.Judge Richard Humpries is to decide whether to allow a full hearing of the case to proceed. An inspection of Viking House last June found the lunch option on that day was Lentil soup, beef stew, tuna Baguette, spaghetti, rice, chilli sauce, chicken legs, salad, water and juice. A meal of beef stew, rice, chips and salad was sampled and the inspector said the food was tasty and the food on offer provided a good variety. There were no ethnic dishes available. The inspection also found that drinks and snacks were available outside mealtimes, and packed lunches were available for residents travelling to Dublin on official business.
