Arizona to Los Angeles "No Power For You!"

It seems to me that the power companies in Arizona have the right to sell to whomever they want. They are, however, most likely contractually obligated to provide power to the City of Los Angeles at this time. Breaking that contract could end up being extremely costly to them.

Immie

Wonder how much those contracts would have bothered LA if they'd actually had the stones to put on a REAL boycott, instead of this "fauxcott" media event of theirs.

This is my point. And why I would love to see AZ try.

But, these power companies are not state owned are they?

If not, then it is not Arizona that is attempting this but rather power company(ies) in Arizona that are trying this.

It seems unfair to me to say Arizona is doing this. I mean the government of the State of Arizona doesn't need anymore bad press now. Does it?

Immie

It was actually an Arizona Energy Comissioner who sent the threat to LA.

LA: "Hey! You can't cut off power to us! We'll sue!"

AZ Power: "Okay, but till you win against our lawyers, the power stays off. Of course we could settle out of court by you dropping this boycott language."

Stalin would be proud of you.

Right after he got done admiring the leftists and their boycott threats. I guess it's only okay to use economic coercion in one direction, huh?

More hypocrisy.

You don't think the people of L.A. would have stood by and allowed Arizona to actually retaliate in said manner do you?

I mean really. L.A. expects to boycott the State of Arizona and not face any consequences. Can you imagine the screaming if Arizona pulled the plug for say even five minutes in L.A.?

The wrath of "the angels" would be unleashed on Arizona if that happened.

You know that saying... what is good for the goose is good for the gander? It does not apply here.

I dunno man, those Arizonians are crazy to begin with, and they all carry guns.

I think that would be a pretty tough battle.

Yeah, what' scumbags, want to punish people over politics, and cause millions of dollars in damages, along with danger to human life without power.

Great idea, can always see clearly who the true partisan hack assholes are on this forum that would even defend such a stupid things

So, California can play partisan politics and hurt the people of Arizona by, Arizona business losing money. But Arizona can't do the same to Los Angeles.

Proof of that? Cause some politician says boycott, you think people actually will? Shutting off power and encouraging people to not vacation in Az is not even equivalent. if they want to make a statement for people to boycott california, they are free to. I have said the boycott of Arizona thing is stupid anyway

We're not talking about LA politicians just advising their private citizen constituents to boycott Arizona products. Their city council voted to bar THE CITY from conducting business with Arizona . . . all except the 25% of their power that they get from us, that is.

And ditto San Francisco. Makes me wonder if at this point, THEY are quietly reviewing exactly what sort of business they do with Arizona that they don't want exposed to national ridicule.

And like Arizona companies aren't benefitting from selling energy to california. So stupid some people are

Of course we benefit from doing business with them. No one said we don't. WE aren't the ones who ginned up this whole "fauxcott" brouhaha in the first place.

the regulate instate commerce....if there is no commerce there is nothing for them to regulate....maybe obama wil sieze control of the arizona power company and or make them sell power to northern mexico....

What part of "The Hoover Dam is owned by the federal government" was unclear in my post?

And where does the power that Arizona exports to California primarily come from?

According to the US Department of Energy, nearly half of Arizona's energy is produced by coal-powered plants. The next largest source is nuclear, followed by natural gas. Hydroelectric power only makes up 7% of our power.

What, did you think the Hoover Dam was powering the whole state AND Los Angeles? Moron.

Coming from los angeles, the best part about this thread is seeing all of the people outside of LA thinking that not only is this going to happen, but the fact that if it did, LA would be the loser there. LOL.

By the way, why in god's name would a private company defend the state of arizona when they can make money continuing to sell to California?

Maybe because they think that illegals cause more damage overall than a short bitchslap to Los Angeles would.

The Federal Government does not provide anything it did not first take from someone else. In this case it Regulates Interstate commerce. If La wants to Boycott Arizona, I say put up or shut up, Boycott Arizona, Power is part of the package. Is it symbolism over substance or what??? ;)

Umm, in the case of the Hoover Dam, the Federal Government BUILT it.

Um, Hoover Dam provides very little of Arizona's power. Dumbass.

They can take their frigging wrath and stuff it where the sun don't shine. Arizonans generally aren't that fond of Southern Californians to begin with, and they're not helping matters.

Then why do Zonies keep coming here? Pul-leeze get this boycott off the ground, people.

Arizona threatens to pull plug on LA's power if city goes through with boycott...

LA's boycott resolution sparks a threat over power the city receives from Arizona
An Arizona utility commissioner said he's willing to pull the plug on Los Angeles if the city goes through with a boycott of his state.

In a letter to the city of LA, a member of Arizona's power commission said he would ask Arizona utility companies to cut off the power supply to Los Angeles. LA gets about 25 percent of its power from Arizona.

Power Play Over Immigration Law | NBC Los Angeles

Thats pretty bad-assed right there.

Kudos to AZ if this is legit.

The power plant in question is partially owned by Californian utility companies. And the "member of the power commission" has no power to cut off California.

This is a made-up story.

Yea....except no. No one is going to lose money as a private company for some ideology.

The Brock Group ? A Leading Industrial Specialty Crafts Provider

They contract in Arizona. They've been caught with multiple undocumented workers. The chances of contractors in Arizona like the Brock Group who work on these plants employing undocumented workers is far more likely than them halting their business for something they've done in the past.

Sorry AZ, try again.

Nice dodge, has nothing to do with the fact you are a scum sucking hack.
Opened that door into your face again, did we Gregg? Gotta watch throwing them low slow passes over the middle, they're going to be picked off and taken all they way back. And that was your idea of a witty retort? Shit, son. You don't know whether your shot, fucked, powderburned or snakebit.

:wall:

:lol:OK, as you've put nothing of intelligence forth. but keep trolling. You support wanting to cause potential death, suffering, and financial damages over a political statement. Scum sucker fits perfectly
Boo fucking hoo hoo hoo. Poor widdle LA gonna be forced to deal with the repercussion of their ferrari fascism. Who's trying to harm whom with a bunch of poliical BS? Wah... wahh... wahhh.

Gwegg attempts wit. News at 11.

We call them environmentalists, community organizers, race baiters and socialists.

Wanna know whats funnier still? This AAAAALLLL could have been avoided if California only allowed for the building of new coal or nuclear power plants inside their borders instead of fucking around with pinwheels, mirrors and moonshine.

Of course that's everyone else's fault they're unable to sustain their growth.

How odd. I live in CA and we've had two new power plants built in our area in the last 5 years.
California built 2 nuclear or coal power plants in the last 5 years? Wow. Since there's a moratorium on nukes that must be coal. I find it hard to believe the econazis let that slip by. So what kind of plant is it? a couple natural gas peaking plants which can't carry the heavy load full time and cost 3 times as much to operate per kilowatt?
