Let's Examine Claims of Atheists

The Fallacy of Science vs. Religion

The atheists' frequent claim that science and religion are mutually exclusive is demonstrably false. If atheists were as "rational" and "intelligent" as they are always claiming, they would not resort to mendacity. Science pursues truth.

The list of scientists as men and women faith is long and growing.

The Atheist Claim of Rationality and Intellectual Superiority

If atheists are, on average, intellectually superior to people of faith, then why do they abandon their religious belief in atheism at a rate higher than any other group? (The Supreme Court has adjudged atheism a religion. Torcaso v. Watkins, 367 U.S. 488 (1961))

Ivy League Colleges all have Christian charters. Is there a single college with an atheist charter? Of course not.

Atheists marry less, by far, than those of faith. Marriage confers enormous mental and physical health benefits, showing how rational and intelligent it is to marry the opposite sex.

Recently the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life has published its mammoth study on Religion in America based on 35,000 interviews... According to the Pew Forum a whopping 37% of atheists never marry as opposed to 19% of the American population, 17% of Protestants and 17% of Catholics.[3]

The religious have better mental health into adulthood.

The abstract for the journal article Health and Well-Being Among the Non-religious: Atheists, Agnostics, and No Preference Compared with Religious Group Members published in the Journal of Religion and Health indicates: "On dimensions related to psychological well-being, atheists and agnostics tended to have worse outcomes than either those with religious affiliation or those with no religious preference."[2]

Global News reported:

Children who are raised with religious or spiritual beliefs tend to have better mental health into their adulthood, a new study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found.

According to the study’s findings, people who attended weekly religious services or prayed or meditated daily in their childhood reported greater life satisfaction in their 20s. People who grew up in a religious household also reported fewer symptoms of depression and lower rates of post-traumatic stress disorder.[3]

People of faith live longer than atheists.

For the study, a team of Ohio University academics, including associate professor of psychology Christian End, analysed more than 1,500 obituaries from across the US to piece together how the defining features of our lives affect our longevity.

These records include religious affiliations and marriage details as well as information on activities, hobbies and habits, which can help or hinder our health, not otherwise captured in census data.

The study, published in Social Psychological and Personality Science today, found that on average people whose obituary mentioned they were religious lived an extra 5.64 years.

Atheists commit suicide far more often than those of faith, which is clearly not "rational"

"Atheism: Contemporary Rates and Patterns" in The Cambridge Companion to Atheism, ed. by Michael Martin, Cambridge University Press: Cambridge, UK (2005). In examining various indicators of societal health, Zuckerman concludes about suicide:

"Concerning suicide rates, this is the one indicator of societal health in which religious nations fare much better than secular nations. According to the 2003 World Health Organization's report on international male suicides rates (which compared 100 countries), of the top ten nations with the highest male suicide rates, all but one (Sri Lanka) are strongly irreligious nations with high levels of atheism. It is interesting to note, however, that of the top remaining nine nations leading the world in male suicide rates, all are former Soviet/Communist nations, such as Belarus, Ukraine, and Latvia. Of the bottom ten nations with the lowest male suicide rates, all are highly religious nations with statistically insignificant levels of organic atheism."[3]

The list of atheist shooters and serial killers does not correspond to claims of intellectual superiority and rationality.

Atheists have a long record of being mass shooters and militant atheism in general has a causal association with mass murder.

Due to this fact, peer reviewed research published in academic journals has found that society-at-large is likely to hold atheists responsible for capital criminal acts and that even atheists are likely to assume that serial killers are fellow atheists.[2][3][4]

Are atheists right? Who the hell knows. There's really know way for any of us to really know, and you gotta be dead to find out the truth. Yuck. BUT - there is some truth to be found in the benefits of religion and/or spirituality. Not so sure about the positives about atheism.

It is not science verses religion, they operate in different spheres. Science is the study of the natural world and comes from observation. Period. Religion is a combination of morality and theology and comes from faith. There is no supernatural component of science whereas the supernatural is a major component of religion. Separate spheres of study and neither should contradict the other, intelligent people can believe in both.

Atheists must by definition be right. They do not believe in God or gods.

If that is the case is a separte issue. There may be unicorns but I don't believe in them.

Science might be compatable with faith. I can't see how but each to his own.

Magic fairies in the sky is never an answer

What do we mean by "atheist"? ... the prefix /a-/ can mean "against" or it can mean "without regard to" ... in the latter, we sometimes use the word "agnostic", someone who doesn't care if there's God or not ...

My comments here address the former ... people who fight against God, or more correctly fight against belief in God ... like it's any of their damn business ... I find this cowardly, hateful and a clear sign of base moralities ... the Bible is quite clear in it's prohibition concerning extra-marital sex, and for no other reason do folks flee God and condemn all belief in His judgements ... once we rise up to the Christian doctrine, we can't even divorce, we each get one mate and one mate alone ... choose wisely ...

The heathen are not so ... see how they prance around in their finery and sexiest garb ... all that time and effort into attracting a mate for that night, only to prance around the next day attracting another mate for that night ... how many do we know who do nothing but prance around attracting mates? ... what can be said of a society where child support payments are to be avoided as that takes resources away from the efforts to make more babies ...

Monogamy is very rare among mammals, slightly more common in birds ... it's thought that this allows the individual to only have to expend the energy and resources attracting a mate once in their lives ... the next breeding season all this courtship expense is skipped and invested into the young ... thus improving reproductive success, the gold standard of evolution ...

This is a two-edged sword ... I am appalled at how some of my fellow Christians push and shove our doctrine down people's throats ... the bull horns and protests at funerals ... it offends me to the core of my being to see churches dress their young women as harlots and send them door-to-door preaching the Word of God ... hello? ... and in asking, they always answer "because some man said it was okay" ... I like that Christianity is taught, but those who teach should actually live the doctrine ... and frankly, who among the heathen DON'T know where to find out about God's teachings ... Sunday, local church, can't go wrong ...

I am very clear in my heart why I keep my hair down to my butt ... it's to say to you first off "I am NOT like you" ... hate me now, not later when you learn the truth of me ... I am a Christian, and that will be the first thing you learn about me ... it's a shame it's a sin to be vain, or I'd be bragging about how beautiful my hair is, God's finest example of femininity ... set upon a rather ugly old man ... too funny ... soaking in gasoline cuts the sheen and body enough so my hard hat stays on ... alas, I'm not vain so the hair is a curse upon my head, just can't bear to cut God's own creation ...

Atheists, get bent ... agnostics, pay your damn child support ... maybe try a hobby other than sex ...

Argue with the Supreme Court. It has adjudicated that atheism IS a religion. Not choosing common sense, good health, and happiness is a choice that many such as you pursue passionately, as a religion.

Anger comes from the bosom of fools and nothing makes atheists more angry than facts, science and rationality as I have expressed above and in Science of the Bible.

What do we mean by "atheist"?
Apropos of nothing, just some useless trivia I recently learned: Early Christians were persecuted by their pagan neighbors because they were considered dangerous atheists. It was thought since they did not believe in the pagan gods they would bring down the wrath of those gods by not making the required sacrifices.

Thing is that is a lie.

The US supreme court has said that atheisim has the same protection as other religious catagories. But that is in the same way as bald is a hair style.

This thing with you being a chemical engineer... I get a lot of people on the internet who claim to be x and have no clue at all.

So just to test it, how much temperature rise would happen to the surface of the world ocean if a zettajoule is added over a year to the top of the ocean. Assume that the heat will not penetrate beyond 700m.

quoting lies from conservapedia will avail you naught!

I am familiar with that deranged site.

I don't believe in god.

You can't make me

and if you try to make laws to FORCE me to bow to YOUR religion we are going to have a big problem.

You go right ahead and force your kids to fear your god so that when they grow up and get married they can go all Andrea Yates on their kids. But I will NOT be forced to accept YOUR religious BS.

I come up with 1,000 K ... assuming a natural source for the energy (i.e. the Sun) and no atmosphere ... no sure why we need to assume the heat will penetrate, it won't, the ocean boils off ... 1,000 K would be it's black body temperature after the atmosphere is stripped away ...

You're not planning anything are you? ...

1. there is no god--plain and simple
2. thinking of someone as an atheist is like thinking the same about people not believing in the tooth fairy/unicorns/Santa/etc etc =there is no tooth fairy/Santa/etc

Good authors (novelist) research their subject prior to telling a story- today's novelist have a lot more history to research than prior novelist- prior novelist used 'literary' license as do today's novelist- a good story teller uses some facts to make his story more plausible- talking snakes, two of every species on one boat and humanity coming from two brothers is a bit much and not really plausible.

Darwin's Magic Wand of Selection IS "really plausible" to you. All species coming from a single-celled ancestor suits you just fine, but humans from two brothers "is a bit much."

Brilliant. No, really.

“A growing number of respectable scientists are defecting from the evolutionist camp…..moreover, for the most part these “experts” have abandoned Darwinism, not on the basis of religious faith or biblical persuasions, but on strictly scientific grounds, and in some instances, regretfully.” (Dr. Wolfgang Smith, physicist and mathematician)

“Darwin’s evolutionary explanation of the origins of man has been transformed into a modern myth, to the detriment of scientific and social progress…..The secular myths of evolution have had a damaging effect on scientific research, leading to distortion, to needless controversy, and to gross misuse of science….I mean the stories, the narratives about change over time. How the dinosaurs became extinct, how the mammals evolved, where man came from. These seem to me to be little more than story-telling.” (Dr. Colin Patterson, evolutionist and senior Paleontologist at the British Museum of Natural History which houses 60 million fossils)
