This shouldn't be a surprise. To my knowledge, no one has been claiming that Republicans will do well this year because most people like them or embrace their ideas. Rather, their supporters are expected to vote and their opponents' supporters aren't. That's why "likely voter" polls are much more favorable to Republican candidates than are "registered voter" polls.

The general consensus has been: the better the turnout, the smaller the Republican wave will be. So yeah.
