While left wingers were fretting about the mild winter we enjoyed, Anchorage Alaska set a new record and doubled it's average for snow, around 11 ft. Can it be that the world is really round and sometimes the cold air is on the other side of the hemisphere? Lefties can't enjoy nice weather without trying to run an extortion scam.

March +0.11 And we are still in a La Nina Enso period.

Call it what you want but it seems that this week the US is enjoying below average temperatures and frost warnings in the South every night. The jet stream is dipping pretty far south so what does that mean? The cold air that was locked up in northern Europe and the top of the world this year is sagging down late in the season. Lefties can't seem to enjoy good weather without turning it into a political issue..

you usually post up this graph-
UAH_LT_1979_thru_March_2012.png

the graph shows a period before the great El Nino of 1998 that is steady, with natural variation to it. after the 1998 El Nino reset the temperature by ~0.3C there has been another period that is steady, with a natural variation.

I just wish that some of the billions spent on trying to frame CO2 as the culprit for temperature increase had been used to improve our knowledge of ENSO and ocean currents that more likely to be the finger on the thermostat.

Gettin ready to switch to El Nino?...

Goodbye La Nina: Will drought, hurricanes also go?
3 May,`12 WASHINGTON (AP) — The La Nina weather phenomenon is over.
Forecasters say that's good news for the drought in the South and hurricane areas along the coasts. The National Weather Service pronounced the two-year La Nina (NEEN'-yah) finished on Thursday.

La Nina is the flip side of El Nino (NEEN'-yoh) and is caused by the cooling of the central Pacific Ocean. La Nina's greatest effects are in the winter, usually triggering drought in the U.S. South and more rain further north. It also often means more hurricane activity in the Atlantic during the summer. Global temperatures are cooler during La Ninas, especially in the tropics

Meteorologists reported some drought relief in Texas earlier this year. But recently drought conditions intensified again in parts of Texas and much of the Southeast.

Anchorage had record snow for the winter, and some real cold months. However, April, for Anchorage was above average in temperature.

A very cold January,

Anchorage: Averaged 14.6 degrees below normal for the month with Wasilla averaging 15.7 degrees below normal.

Other than January, looks more like a precipitation event rather than a cold event.

None of this stuff matters in the bigger picture.

The AGW contingent keeps posting up these numbers which are exceedingly close to the mean. To them, it is significant but its not at all significant to the majority and clearly, not at all significant to the policy makers who serve the majority. Are we getting all this?

In other words, nobody ( except the AGW contingent) thinks that these slight deviations mean we have to shut down fossil fuel production tomorrow...........or in the forseeable future ( ie: decades). So really.........how is a little bit more snow in ALaska or a little warmer temperatures in Anchorage having an effect on anything except for facilitating a hobby-like discussion on forums such as these? Its having zero effect on the status quo......and thank heavens for that. Lets face it.........a drip on a brick is going to be erosive, but really, does anybody care?

Sk00ks..............just bringing all back to Realville when the discussion goes a bit astray.

cold, wet and temps far below normal here in New York for the past 10 days. Funny..........people around here are like, "What the fuck with this cold?". And thats what matters..........the masses walking around wondering WTF with the chilly temperatures...........hear about an article from a bomb thrower and say "meh". The k00ks dont think it matters but Im here to tell you its far, far more important than some science that shows a .03 change in temperature.

Epic drought covers widest area since 1956
16 July`12 - With more intense heat on the way, the USA is in the middle of its worst drought in more than 55 years, data released Monday by the National Climatic Data Center show.
How bad is it? Based on one index, 55% of the contiguous USA is in a drought, "the largest percentage since December 1956, when 58 percent … was in moderate to extreme drought," the climate center noted. This is the sixth-highest percentage on record, the center reports, based on the Palmer Drought Severity Index. That gauge has been used to track drought data since 1895, long before the creation of the U.S. Drought Monitor in 2000.

As a result, the nation's corn and soybean belt has been especially hard hit over the past three months, the report said. "Topsoil has dried out and crops, pastures and rangeland have deteriorated at a rate rarely seen in the last 18 years," the report said. Only three droughts in the Dust Bowl years of the 1930s (1934, 1939 and 1931) and two droughts in the 1950s (1954 and 1956) were worse.

The most recent U.S. Drought Monitor report says 80% of the nation is either in a drought or considered "abnormally dry." Don't expect much help from Mother Nature. Although some rain has fallen on part of the Corn Belt recently, not enough fell on a broad area to make much of a difference in long-term crop yields, AccuWeather reports.

Little relief is expected in the short term in the nation's parched midsection, AccuWeather senior meteorologist Brett Anderson says. The forecasting company is predicting ongoing heat and drought in parts of southern Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, southern Wisconsin and southwestern Minnesota. During most days this week, from southern Illinois, south to Arkansas, west to Nebraska and Kansas, high temperatures will range between a blistering 95 and 100 degrees.

You've really got to gain some knowledge before posting. Higher temperatures can lead to more snow. If the average temp goes from 20 F to 25 F, it'll still snow, but there will be more of it, because warmer air has the ability to carry more moisture.
