Tom Cruise, the celebrated American movie star, whose exciting work in culturally-relevant films such as Rain Man, Born on the 4th of July, and Minority Report had cemented his status as a 'neo-civilization cheerleader,' wanted to be more 'radical.' However, no one knew Tom's secret life --- at night, he would dress-up in a bat costume and prowl the city streets as a masked vigilante named Batman. Batman's mission was to uncover the seething criminality going overlooked by a city hypnotized by gambling and capitalism daydreaming.
There were three nemeses coming to power to seize control of Gotham City's seething criminality and forge 'evil realms' of anti-pedestrian flowery. A husband-and-wife couple named Riddler and Geek were once average molecular biologists at the Salk Institute in southern California until an eco-chemical experiment-gone-wrong that unleashed fumes upon them and turned them into half-disfigured maniacs and compelled them psychologically to become anti-human 'prophets' yielded terrorists. A bodybuilder and Olympic hopeful named Teddy mutated into a freak when his steroids-overuse created much-too-rapid muscle growth, driving him insane and turning him into an everyman-boogeyman called 'Bane' (as in 'bane of humanity'!).
Batman had to tackle Riddler, Geek, and Bane simultaneously. Riddler and Geek had created a siren-tower at the Gotham Library, holding its inhabitants hostage with machine-guns and threatening to burn down the building if a hefty ransom and an escape-chopper were not delivered in time. Meanwhile, Bane had taken over the Main Street Police Station and was holding the chief commissioner as a hostage in his headlock-bearing brutish arms. Batman killed two birds with one stone by using a power-outage to create enough darkness to sneak into the library and the police station and tie up Bane and Riddler/Greek. Urban sanity was restored! Cruise/Batman was finally satisfied.
