with the stresses of shtf, make that 4k and if it's cold, 5k. A lb of fat is 3500 calories. A lb of organs or muscle is just half as many calories. Your body tends to consume muslce rather than fat, too, guys. That's a helluva lot of food, folks. Typically, only half of an animals' live weight and half of grains/legumes is edible food. That sort of raw food is at best, 1000 calories per lb. So you're talking about 8 lbs of foraged fish, flesh, or plant food, EVERY DAY, or at least, part of your day's caloric needs is being provided by your own fat and muscle. You can't continue that loss for more than a few months.

Watch Naked and Afraid TV show, for a bit. Every man on that challenge loses at least a lb per day and some of them lose almost 2 lbs per day. Some days, especially in winter, you will get NOTHING in the way of food, So you'd better be foraging 15 lbs per day, on the days when you CAN, Especialy in the fall, when animals are as fat as they are going to get, and when acorns, nuts and seeds are available. Before the water freezes, making fishing difficult, snow makes it very difficult to travel, plants all die, and many animals/birds migrate or go into hibernation. Only about 1% of the US population has a SHOT at living by means of foraging, maybe 10% with hand-tillage. The horses will all get eaten if shtf, and the seed is all hybrid. Things will get horrendous within a month of shtf.

I might be intimidated for a while, but I'd snap out of it.
