Nearly Half Surveyed in WSJ/NBC Poll Back Anti—Interventionist Stance That Sweeps Across Party Lines

Now this is a poll I can -almost – accept as valid.

The poll findings, combined with the results of prior Journal/NBC surveys this year, portray a public weary of foreign entanglements and disenchanted with a U.S. economic system that many believe is stacked against them. The 47% of respondents who called for a less-active role in world affairs marked a larger share than in similar polling in 2001, 1997 and 1995. (See poll results over time about America's role in the world.)

Similarly, the Pew Research Center last year found a record 53% saying that the U.S. "should mind its own business internationally" and let other countries get along as best they can, compared with 41% who said so in 1995 and 20% in 1964.

.

First, it ain't our planet.

Second, shoving our nose in the business of everyone else can cause more harm than good.

You earn respect, you don't force someone to give it to you.

.

No. Every time we retreat bad things happen. This will end badly.

The last thing I want to sound like is alarmist.

However, the world isn't a neat little package anymore where nations may be separated by more than mere borders. And technology has reached the level where a great deal of destruction can be packed in a very small space.

What happens 3 or 4 thousands miles away can be in your backyard in the matter of minutes.

While most of us would like to put our heads in the sand and ignore what's going on around us, it may not always be possible.

I'm not surprised, adventurism in the first decade of this century proved to be a fiasco. Now, however, we are faced with a damned if we do, damn if we don't circumstance. The US cannot pursue an isolationists role, to do so will upset the balance of power; we might see China take over the role Japan followed in the 30's and 40's and Russia move on other former satellites.

G.W. Bush, the disaster which keeps on giving. We don't need cowboy diplomacy, nor a foreign policy focused on our 'addiction' to oil, we need smart people to engage in a diplomatic mission with the goal of achieving a win - win conclusion, at home and away. It won't be easy of course, but nothing worth achieving is.

The Neo-Cons are still alive and kicking as is the Tea Party, we cannot afford another buildup of arms nor a zero-sum game strategy in our foreign or domestic affairs.

We definitely need to stop meddling in the mudslum world. All of them are controlled by finatics who follow a hate manual. We cannot nation build in countries with disparate ideologies - we should not nation build at all! I would cut all foreign aid.

We should strengthen our military, and smite those who attack us, or our staunch allies. If it comes from terrorist, we need to hold a country like Iran responsible. We should focus on our internal monstrous problems.
