Americans really REALLY hate government

The responses of the big government types are so predictable. Their first line is always "Oh yeah you must hate roads and parks of you don't like the government"

It could be argued that conservatives have no one else to blame but themselves for this.

When virtually every example of government involvement is shouted down as "socialist" and "unconstitutional", the Right opens itself up in two ways:

First, it's so easy to point out programs that are beneficial and poke a whole in the absolutist argument.

Second, the constant attack on all the "socialist" programs of the federal government appears to have softened the public's stance on "socialism" to the point where, clearly, more and more people are willing to defend it.

It looks like this strategy of screaming "socialism" is beginning to backfire.

CBS News has just released an article entitled “Americans hate the U.S. government more than ever“, and an average of recent surveys calculated by Real Clear Politics found that 63 percent of all Americans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and only 28 percent of all Americans believe that the country is heading in the right direction. In just a few days the first real ballots of the 2016 election will be cast in Iowa, and up to this point the big story of this cycle has been the rise of “outsider” candidates that many of the pundits had assumed would never have a legitimate chance. Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders have all been beneficiaries of the overwhelming disgust that the American people feel regarding what has been going on in Washington.

And it isn’t just Barack Obama or members of Congress that Americans are disgusted with. According to the CBS News article that I referenced above, our satisfaction with various federal agencies has fallen to an eight year low…

It reminds me of the former USSR when Hitler invaded. Originally, the Nazi army was cheered by the Soviet populace since Stalin was such a murdering tyrant, but the people soon realized that the Nazi regime was far worse, as hard as it was to even imagine.

But that is the history of mankind. Most who have walked the earth were either a slave of a said government or served in their conquering militaries. That's just what governments do.

Despite this though, people will continue to look for government for answers, like they have done since the beginning of time. You watch, Bernie Sanders, or someone like him, will cause people to turn to the one institution they hate for more answers.

Just because they are corrupt and can be ineffective, doesn't mean they cause more harm than good.

Go to Somalia and see what no government does. Go to South Africa and see what corrupt govt does. Go to North Korea, Zimbabwe and other places to see what dictators do.

I agree that there are millions of under-informed Americans, no doubt about it.

The point of my last sentence, though, is that unless conservatives are satisfied seeing the country move Left, they'll need to improve their messaging. It's up to them to change hearts & minds. If they can't improve, then that's it. If there are millions of uninformed Americans, what are conservatives gonna do about it?

And I didn't say "improve their message". If you're happy with the message, great. I'm talking about "messaging", how the message is delivered and by whom. And right now, and for last decade or two or three, their messaging has been terrible.

I disagree; this is the most important thread on this board. My problem is finding a pol who would actually DO something about our Jabba the Hutt government. Not gonna be an easy task. Until it's tackled, however, NONE of the great ideas being flung about by all these presidential hopefuls will ever be successfully implemented.

As long as the US military is the largest, best equipped force in the world, the US government will be large, and it will continue to grow.

US military spending, is driving the US economy, and useful foreign military incursions abroad have bled the country dry, while at home infrastructure is neglected, health care is the most expensive in the world, and your patchwork education system falls further behind every year.

It's liberals that believe most of the country is liberal. Look at the posts on this blog. How many times have we read how the Republicans are a thing of the past; how old white men are dying off and liberalism is on the way; Republicans will never see the White House again?

Then when liberals lose elections, it's conspiracy time.

Oh, it must be because Republicans are gerrymandering. It must be because they are keeping minorities from voting with Voter-ID. It must be Diebold and Republicans rigging the machines......

I do not hate the government. They do a great job protecting us. Those who hate the government should look at other countries. There are things we can change, but hate is just foolish.
