This is a capitalism-parable inspired by Ruthless People and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

Alas the knight was a supremely-confident defender of democracy. The Christian Bible referred to Alas as 'Apollyon' but many war-historians considered him too much like a 'general' for the kingdom of Gog to be considered a 'tangible' Biblical politics-oriented 'character.' Alas had an invincible sword, which wielded the power to create idealism-restoration in times of great financial uncertainty. In many ways, Alas was like the warrior 'counterpart' of Mother Goose. Alas chose to use his sword (Excalibur) to create idealism for modern-era (21st Century) consumerism (e.g., eBay, eTrade, Wall Street, Burger King, Facebook, etc.).

Standing in Alas's way was the great Red Dragon, a ferocious creature who lived in an underground cavern filled with treasures and gold looted from civilizations across history. The Red Dragon believed that for any kind of idealism about social cohesion/organization/coordination, the reality or 'truth' of the chaos of fire and the fiery flames of hell demanded that all sentient beings contemplate the existence of uncontrollable things/ideas such as malice, rape, torture, gluttony, pollution, and bloodlust. Red Dragon believed consumerism in the modern-era was about Wall Street tycoons, not optimistic Happy Meals for kids going to McDonald's(!). Red Dragon was the ultimate 'Devil's Advocate' and even U.S. President Donald Trump feared him/it.

Fortunately, mankind was busy developing blueprints for a 'grand scheme' involving the construction of an ambitious 'mechanized' planet to neighbour the moon (in case anything 'unnatural' happened to the Earth). This mecha-planet called Gadget represented all of the industriousness optimism necessary to create a real 'dominion' of teamwork-oriented capitalism(!). Gadget reminded humanity that even the work of the hands could yield a real product of commercialism imagination(!), even though it looked like some kind of 'mechanical abomination' or overly-ambitious 'giant machine' planet. Alas was suspicious of Gadget but respected how it represented 'modernism metaphysics.'

Alas was assigned the odious task of keeping Red Dragon away from Earth (and Gadget!) and appeasing the beast with some conceived plan of continual guardianship. Alas decided to challenge Red Dragon to a game of chess, and he purchased a special hand-crafted green-and-white-colored marble chess board for his special/symbolic game with Red Dragon. The game took 5 hours(!) to complete, but finally, Alas won(!). Red Dragon promised Alas he would have his dream-job of teaching Comparative Literature at Yale University (the prestigious American Ivy League school), and Alas was excited to tell the world of the real-life Grendel-resolution story that saved humanity from the depths of cynicism-driven self-annihilation (e.g., capitalism-breakdown). President Trump called Alas the 'Metropolis Messiah.'

Alas retired and spent his final days thinking over and over about his wondrous chess victory over the furious and ominous Red Dragon. Red Dragon remained dormant and hiding in his underground cavern, content he had done his 'job' serving as a symbolic 'Devil's Advocate' in this age of great commercial intrigue/controversy (e.g., Enron, Facebook, U.S. vs. Microsoft, 9/11, etc., etc.). President Trump wrote a capitalism-praise book titled Saving Daddy Dollar. Capitalism was saved (by Alas and demonstrative-Dianetics!).
