Amelia Earhart - Makes you Wonder what else the Government has lied about

Japan surrendered over 70 years ago
We have had full access to their records and access to their guards and officials

Nothing

The US government has known about this for years, yet they continued to lie about the facts.
because it would not be politically expedient to tell the truth. Makes you wonder what else they are lying about now? Yet they wonder why people don't trust them!

The black-and-white image obtained by the History channel suggests Earhart and Noonan survived the plane crash and were captured by the Japanese military. In it, two people who resemble Earhart and Noonan are seen on a dock with their Lockheed Electra airplane aboard a ship. The photo would back the theory that the two survived a crash-landing in the Marshall Islands and were held prisoner by the Japanese military on the island of Saipan until their deaths.

Amelia Earhart Survived Plane Crash, History Channel Documentary Claims
Why do swallow a "suggestion" whole hog? LOL!

Nothing new. The theory that Amelia was captured by the Japanese was portrayed on an old episode of Unsolved Mysteries years ago...complete with local witnesses. Wouldn't surprise me if true and the government has been covering it up.
Why would "the government" cover it up?
Because if true it makes them look bad.
Why would the murder of two American heros by the Japanese make the US look bad? Even if it was true in July 1937 (for whatever reason) by December, the Japanese were committing one of the worst atrocities in the 20th Century: The Rape of Nanking. Even if that wasn't enough, by the end of the war when we were trying and hanging Japanese for war crimes, adding the murder of Earhart would have been a footnote and quickly forgotten after so many had been lost in the war. Why keep it a mystery? Unless the Japanese story was false and Earhart is at the bottom of the sea.

America was not at war and they did nothing in the way of a rescue attempt. Pretty much just left them to die without a second thought.

Amelia was a high profile figure.

According to the History program The Search and Rescue for the Electra and its' crew did not cover the Marshall Islands because they were under Japanese control. That leaves a lot of ocean unsearched.

Yes, and the Navy didn't search all of Australia or Japan either. What are they hiding dammit!!!! /sarcasm

The reason is easy to see for those who can read a navigational chart and can calculate the range of Earhart's Electra 10E. The distance from Howland island to the Marshalls is over 900 miles. She didn't have the fuel to make it that far. If she did, she'd have had enough fuel to circle around and find a landing spot nearer to Howland.

Sorry, but it was one of the largest SAR missions in history with many US sailors risking their lives in the search.

The Reason Why the Search for Amelia Earhart Was Called Off
A mission that cost them 250k a day that ultimately made the government want to make such navy searches illegal for civilian/celebrity adventurers.

Then we learn that the government knew she and Noonan had been captured...and they did nothing.

Not only did they waste time and money. They left them with the Japanese.

Not very good PR.

1) Is that a retraction of your earlier statement that no search was made at all? "they did nothing in the way of a rescue attempt"

2) As shown in a previous post, it's highly unlikely Earhart could have made it the 930+ miles to the Marshall Islands without fuel. Add to this, the Electra 10E cruised at 190MPH. A 930 mile flight would have taken her almost 5 hours additional flight time. Highly unlikely she'd have turned that way instead of looking for Howland. Add to this, is Earhart ended up in the Marshall Islands, she'd be a much worse pilot than anyone previously believed.

3) This still doesn't explain why the US would hide "the truth" for nearly 80 years. As shown above, looking at the Marshalls would be a waste of time since Earhart didn't have the fuel and all the radio triangulations showed she was around Howland. IF she had been captured by the Japanese, the US has a very plausible reason for not looking at the Marshalls and a very good post-WWII reason to hang a few more Japanese for war crimes. So why hide it?

Limitless searches for daredevils do not make sense

Nobody knows they were captured. In fact, there is no evidence they were

I didn't say they didn't search the ocean. I said a rescue attempt from the Japanese never happened.

Don't put words in my mouth.

And as for your claims she couldn't have made it to Marshall Islands. That was covered in the documentary and experts said she could have made it there and they explained in detail why they believed it was possible.

Many eye witnesses saw her in Japanese custody and came forward to talk about it years ago. I find it perfectly plausible that she could have been captured and the government left her to die and then covered it up. Much like they were trying (and failing) to do with Benghazi.

Sorry for misunderstanding your previous post.

I didn't watch the documentary, the picture has been proven to be from 1935 and both the math and political reasoning doesn't add up. Believe as you wish. If you want to believe Earhart was over 900 miles off course, fine. If you want to believe all of those radio triangulations were faked, a big government conspiracy or erroneous, fine. Produce evidence proving Earhart and her aircraft were captured by the Japanese and I'll be happy to discuss it.

even today using dead reckoning being off by a degree or two over great distance

one could be off by 900 miles that was possible

however the rest doesnt add up
