Alan Keyes to announce break with GOP in Hazleton, PA
    April 13, 2008

HAZLETON, Penn. — Former Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes has chosen April 15 to make a major announcement of his intentions, following indications he has broken with the GOP.

A life-long Republican who has increasingly cited the party's failure to match conservative rhetoric with actual performance in the political arena, Keyes said he will reveal his reasons for departing the GOP at a press conference scheduled for 8:30 pm ET, at the Best Western Genetti Inn in Hazleton, PA.

The event will be video-streamed live at Keyes' website, www.AlanKeyes.com.

Keyes added that he is looking to the Constitution Party as a possible home for his future efforts in politics, including a potential run for president in the 2008 general election.

This is very sad news. He's given me years of laughs as one of the biggest GOP buffoons.

I don't mind him very much. He clearly has the balls to risk his political career to do what he thinks is right.

    ahhh.. alan keyes...

Christ would not vote for Barack Obama, because Barack Obama has voted to behave in a way that it is inconceivable for Christ to have behaved.

I frankly don't care if you agree with my stand on abortion. I take that stand because no other stand is consistent with decent principles, and no other standard is consistent with the will of God.

The flag that was the symbol of slavery on the high seas for a long time was not the Confederate battle flag, it was sadly the Stars and Stripes.

When we, through our educational culture, through the media, through the entertainment culture, give our children the impression that human beings cannot control their passions, we are telling them, in effect, that human beings cannot be trusted with freedom.

His character in this case means little in regards to how I feel about his decision.

I say good for him. Hopefully, more follow suit.

Whether or not you agree with conservatives, there's no longer a place for them in the GOP.

Now we have two "Naders" on the right. If the election looks close, I might be donating to Keyes or Bob Barr. The question is, which one will siphon off more votes from John McCain?

Paulitics, notice that ONE THIRD of Republican voters in Pennsylvania DID NOT vote for McCain? Paul got 16 percent and the rest went to Huckabee. I was amused by that. My mother-in-law is always telling me about the very intense Paul support in rural PA, where she lives.
