While New York politicians scratch their heads over how to create jobs, one solution is obvious: Get out of the way. Lawmakers could start by killing licensing requirements that have nothing to do with public health or safety.

Too many people pounding the pavement in search of work findthat acing an interview isn’t enough. In more and more jobs, you must first get the government’s permission in the form of a license, which often means months (if not years) of mandated schooling and training, as well as paying fees and passing exams.

In the 1950s, only one in 20 Americans needed the government’s permission to work. Today, it’s nearly one in three.

Interesting article. NJ probably has even tougher requirements.

The ACT govenment wants too much out of a taxi, that’s why it is “expensive”. The taxi rego costs about $8,000 a year which only cost about $2000 in NSW. The taxi plate leasing costs around $20,000 a year, and the insurance costs another $10,000(for vechile & driver). And all this still not include the running cost. Taxi Opereator needs to pay taxi base bout $1,300 each month for the base radio fee as well. If you want to put a car on road to do the business, you need to pay $1600 to fit all the equipments in and all of that cost a lot. There is a camera rental fee cost $1,280

My husband is a plumber. These are the requirements in NJ:
Plumbing Contractor's License

You need a license to do plumbing work in New Jersey.

The Board does require you to pass an exam to get a license. To take the exam you must be over the age of 21 and have one of the following:

* has completed a four year apprenticeship program and one year of Board-approved work experience

* a bachelor's degree in mechanical, plumbing, or sanitary engineering and one year of Board-approved work experience

Plumber's license fees: It will cost you $100 nonrefundable to file an application for a license. The business and law exam will cost you $50 nonrefundable, the trade exam is $90 nonrefundable, and the practical exam is $110 nonrefundable.

The Board issues licenses every two years. Your license will cost you $80 to $160, depending on when you get it during the two-year period.

Before doing any business in New Jersey, you must post a bond to the state for $3,000.

Alot of these requirements are wanted by the business community. One example is the food carts and trucks. Restaurants want them nowhere near their establishments. They have lobbied, successfully, to keep them away.

New York has been chasing people out of the state for decades, they wring their hands wondering how to bring jobs and money back ,but will do what ever it takes to crush any real opportunities,Nature Gas is a perfect example. Albany and down state are a mill stone around the rest of the states neck.
