88 people killed in 16 mass shootings in USA..

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 32,885 people died in traffic crashes in 2010 in the United States (latest figures available),
including an estimated 10,228 people who died in drunk driving crashes, accounting for 31% of all traffic deaths last year.

Since NHTSA began recording alcohol-related statistics in 1982, drunk driving fatalities have decreased 52% from 21,113 in 1982.
Since the inception of The Century Council and our national efforts to fight drunk driving, drunk driving fatalities have declined 35% from 15,827 in 1991. (Source: NHTSA/FARS, 2011)

Sixteen US Mass Shootings Happened in 2012, Leaving at Least 88 Dead | The Nation

A drunk driver in 2010 killed 115 people for every one person killed in a mass killing in 2012.

Where is the media on Banning alcohol which causes drunken behavior which causes driving accidents which causes killings?

Shouldn't every drunk driver that kills someone be executed???

Ummmm......does the fact completely escape you that your own post and everything you wrote and linked to is concrete evidence that regulation and the right laws can have an impact on a public issue. In this case, drunk driving.

Thanks for providing proof that the right laws and regulations CAN and DO reduce the problem.

I never disputed that! I was simply pointing out the gross disproportion of the MSM coverage i.e. drunk drivers kill 115 more people then a mass shooter.. but no major news about that! WHY...
Actually it appears that current gun legislation is working quite well if there were ONLY 88 MASS gun killings from 16 events!
If drunk driving had the same obvious legislation the 20,000 gun laws have maybe we'd see only 1,000 deaths a year from drunk drivers!

I mean what about putting on the news every nite a story about a drunk driving death that day... I mean the networks did that regarding IrAQ!!!
Every night a list of soldiers killed in Iraq... I say the same dedicated effort to reducing the 10,000 deaths a year from drunk driving... could be done!!!

Are you against that???

The difference which you are failing to address, is that while drunk drivers are irresponsible assholes, they are not intentionally going out to harm or murder people through the act of drinking and then seeking out victims to mow down in their car. Cars have a very important function in society beyond that of murder.

Guns, have a true purpose to do one thing. Kill. There is intent behind murder with a gun.

DUI and Murder by firearm are both terrible things. Both need rules governing them, but to act like they are even remotely the same thing is downright laughable.

Does this mean that the CON$ervoFascist Brotherhood will start supporting mass transit now????

Far cheaper to execute a drunk driver then to do as MOST mass transits systems cost.
For example in FL efforts to have a high speed rail 90 miles between Tampa and Orlando was trashed when most people saw the illogic of a 120 mph train NOT being able to go 120 mph
due to start/stops! In fact in became quickly obvious driving SAVED time! Saved tourists that would have supposedly flown into Tampa to take a train to Orlando!!!!
Yea... how stupid.

So using the same common sense... why promote MASS TRANSIT when more and more people are telecommuting???
Duh!!! Obviously you mass transit dinosaurs still have these antiquated views about moving masses of people like ants from home to workplace!
FACTS about telecommuting...
"Telecommuting is growing each and every year, more and more prominent companies and firms are switching to, or adopting some level of home based telecommuting workers.
One study found that workers who worked from home save companies and firms more than $8,000 per worker each and every year.
Recently, Dow Chemical slashed their real estate and operating expenses by more than 33 percent through the use of telecommuting.

So other then keeping drunks off the road which can easily be solved by executing drunk drivers and showing the executions on the nightly news... it's called an old fashion term "behavior modification".. might be over your head!!

Drunk driving equals deaths equals execution... simple!
NO need to spend BILLIONS on riderless mass transits as a solution you suggested!

So the 32,885 traffic deaths are worthless because it is cheaper to execute drunks than support mass transit! You gotta just love CON$ervoFascist "logic."

What does it say when Conservatives and pro gun folks try every bit of misdirection? They throw up incredulous arguments to distract the public from the real problem of increased and increasing gun violence. Automobiles, knives, axes, adult beds (that's right, one actually claimed that adult beds cause children's deaths and that's the problem we should address).

Guns, ladies and gentlemen, guns fitted with semi-automatic firing systems and high capacity magazines are what make "mass shootings" possible. Not cars, not axes, not adult beds. The problem is "mass" shootings in schools, theaters, temples, restaurants and on urban streets. If we can arrive at solutions that can take the "mass" out of "mass shootings", we can then address the vast and incomprehensible problem of axe murders. Otherwise, it's just smoke and mirrors and frankly I'm amazed that some responsible people use the smoke and mirrors to distract us from what we clearly see as the real problem.

Once someone explains to me what the virtue is of a semi-automatic firing system and high capacity magazines will I think that they are absolutely necessary and provide some indispensable good to society. And the virtues of these things had damn well better outweigh the carnage they visit on society. Don't bring "convenience" or "we have to out shoot the criminals" The former is laughable and the latter argues for an arms race on the American streets.

In both acts, the person behind the wheel or pulling the trigger was the responsible party for causing a death. The car and the gun are inanimate objects and can't cause death without the actions of a human being. You need less govt education.

Liberal scum here need to defend the number of people killed by criminals in 1-3 people killed incidents which blows away the "mass murder" stories that make headlines.

But of course, all those criminals will just turn in their guns when you tell them, eh dumbfucks???

Some thoughts on this thread:

Cars are produced to move people from one place to another.

Guns too, from the surface of the earth to six feet under the earth.

People who drive cars must be licensed, a license can be revoked if a licensed driver suffers from seizures. If we license gun owners, said license can be revoked for mental health issues, drinking and drug abuse and criminal behavior. Providing a gun to an unlicensed person made a felony, and the provider removed from society for twenty years. Such a mandatory sentence will get the attention of most gun huggers.

Research by the CDC must be allowed unfettered, on the issue of gun violence, tobacco use, air pollution and every potential health risk. Some worry about the debt being passed to our posterity, yet seem unconcerned of the health risks of failing to inform/protect the public from toxins and unsafe products.

The American people said no to alcohol prohibition in 1933.

That's the way it is done.

Criminals will not turn in their guns, that's true. The rest of the rant is ridiculous. Liberals (small l) and other normal people don't see mass murder as a story, we see it as a horrific event with many causes - one of which is the weapon used.

The idiot fringe, of which GoneBezerk is a proud and uncivilized member, dismiss the murder of 20-first graders as the cost of freedom - I ask whose freedom? Something must be done to limit the ability of those few intent on doing evil from the ability to do so.

We paint with a broad brush whenever one of us chooses to fly today, it is past time to inconvenience the gun owner with the broad brush of gun control. It's time to take the nation back from the idiot fringe and from those who choose profit over innocent victims; who consider their deaths simply the cost (to others) of doing business.
