70-yr-old north carolina man wrongly convicted four decades ago, judges say

Yes it did. Shit happens in life. He is lucky. If he had been in Asia or Europe he would have never seen the light of day again.
LMAO Are you serious? Not in Europe. That would not be the case in Europe. For example, the penalty for murder in the UK is often 20 years. Not the death penalty and not life w/o parole.

In a number of countries, life imprisonment has been effectively abolished. Many of the countries whose governments have abolished both life imprisonment and indefinite imprisonment have been culturally influenced or colonized by Spain or Portugal, and have written such prohibitions into their current constitutional laws.

A number of European countries have abolished all forms of indefinite imprisonment, including Serbia, Croatia, and Spain, which set the maximum sentence at 40 years, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which sets the maximum sentence at 45 years, and also Portugal, which sets the maximum sentence at 30 years, while Norway has abolished life imprisonment but retains other forms of indefinite imprisonment.

The United States is one of the ONLY 1st world countries that practices the death penalty. We have the privilege of being amongst the ranks of Iran, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.

Knew he was Black before I even opened the link.

Same.

Since he has spent 40 years in jail a likely innocent man, that's 40 million of the State's money he should get when he is released.
Some states do have a set amount they will pay the wrongfully convicted. It's normally $50,000/year. Nowhere near a million bucks per year.

$50,000 a year does not even come close to compensating for the mental and physical torture he would have suffered for all those years.

It's more money than he would have made on the outside by a long shot.

You just pulled that number out of your ass didnt you?
Yeah I know you did.
Most states pay thirty or forty thousand a year for wrongful imprisonment.
Texas(yes I know all you libs will hate this)leads the nation with eighty thousand a year for wrongful imprisonment.
And surely you dont think it cost a million bucks a year to house an inmate?

Of course it doesn't cost a million bucks to house an inmate. But this is wrongful imprisonment. This is a guy locked away for four decades because he was black. He deserves enough compensation so that the state learns its lesson.

How do you know it was because he was black?

He is lucky.
Only in a way is this true. He's still alive and he got to go home, yes, but he is now in his 70's, so how much more of his life does he have left to live? Most definitely not enough to make up for all of the time that was taken from him.

God bless you and him always!!!
