Republicans are protecting Big Pharma by resisting Medical Marijuana. It's a gift or payback to them.

That doesn't mean Democrats are so great though.

I live in Colorado, and when recreational passed many were surprised to see that large Republican strongholds, like Colorado Springs, aka the Church capital of the United States and home to Focus on the Family voted to legalize marijuana, as did many other strong Republican counties in this state.

Another state, ALASKA, a very RED conservative state just legalized marijuana for recreational use.

The irony here, is while you still have conservative states that are opposed to marijuana, there are also liberal blue states that adamantly oppose it.

Therefore, here is the PROOF that marijuana IS NOT a party line, Democrat, Republican issue.

If the mindset of the population of your state is tired of wasting taxpayer dollars on law enforcement, judicial proceedings, and incarceration, of non violent people who use marijuana, versus tracking down people who are very dangerous to society, then your state has a chance of getting it passed. If the population of your state is still stuck on STUPID, regarding marijuana, then they'll continue to waste your money.

Legalizing marijuana is a two-edges sword. Until recently marijuana was 100% decriminalized in Alaska and there was no legal hassle associated with it. Then the Republican-controlled legislature smiled and put "legalization" on the ballot. It passed overhwlemingly and now the users are finding themselves confronted with licenses, license fees, and soon-to-be-enacted state and local taxes. Also users have found themselves subject to restrictions that have long existed on sale/use of alcohol and tobacco....none of them which existed before "decriminalization" gave way to the wildly popular "legalization".

Who knew you could shoot yourself in the foot with a friggin' joint!

Of course marijuana is regulated. In Colorado it's regulated like alcohol and tobacco .That's the being made legal part--of legalizing marijuana.

Furthermore if you're correct that marijuana was 100% decriminalized in Alaska prior to legalization, a Republican state legislature would have also enacted that-- Da Duh.

The current GOP leaders are old fart Statists. They only pretend to be Conservatives when they feel it's convenient. In fact, most don't even call themselves Conservatives anymore. Now they just call themselves Republicans.
