$25 ATM limit for Kansas welfare recipients may violate federal law

The poor in this country have it too easy.

That is why Kansas is trying to make it hard to be poor. That way, people will say......Being poor sucks, I think I will go out and get a well paying job

It is so expensive to be poor in America. Do you realize what does it mean to ordinary people?
How are these people supposed to pay rent? My landlord doesnt take checks, only cash or money order. I must be missing something.

Smart landlord. I have renters to, I wouldn't trust their checks any further than I could bounce them.

How in the world can the low information left make a connection between donations to a political candidate and logical limits to "temporary" taxpayer funded assistance ATM cards. You almost gotta laugh when the (mostly democrat) radical left claims that Black people are being victimized when they have to get a photo I.D. card to vote when they are just as astute in using ATM cards as anyone else in the modern world.

'No other state has enacted legislation imposing a $25 limit on the maximum amount of cash that welfare recipients can withdraw from an ATM.

“The $25 limit is uncharted territory,” said Liz Schott, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a Washington, D.C., think tank.

Schott pointed out that ATMs don’t permit withdrawals in five-dollar increments, so people would only be able to withdraw $20. And they would have to pay any fees charged by the banks on top of a $1 fee assessed by the state for all ATM withdrawals.

“The question is, given the transaction fees and the limit, when you put those two together, is that a reasonable access to assistance?” Schott said.'

Clearly it does.

The law was obviously enacted in bad faith, seeking only to disadvantage those receiving public assistance.

Yet another example of unmitigated idiocy from the right.

Disadvantage those on public Assistance?

What a load of horseshit.

Those on public assistance are being bankrolled by those that work. They should have nothing easy. Get off welfare and get a damned job. Take care of yourself.

Welfare is a game to many on it. They know how to play the system and boy do they. Its all at Taxpayer expense. They don't care where the money comes from or who worked his or her ass off to earn it. All they care about is themselves and that free ride.

What you're missing is that your landlord is a criminal cheating on taxes and involved with other shady enterprises.

First of all, bring back food stamps. What do they need ATM cards for other than getting cash for lap dances or whiskey? Kansas is giving the poor too much.

All states are. In "The Grapes of Wrath" we saw that there's no such thing as a job Americans don't want to do when there's no welfare state to fall back on.

In "The Grapes of Wrath" we saw what happens when workers stand up for a fair wage. We also saw the Government was the only ones to give the migrants a fair break

Why can't it be both?

In "The Grapes of Wrath" we say workers toiling all day doing menial tasks. We also saw them more in debt at the end of the day than when they started

What conservatives call........Worker Utopia

The views in Grapes of Wrath are quite clear. Steinbeck was accused of socialism

Steinbeck was a complete communist, but he inadvertently proved that people will do whatever they need to to survive. It's like Ashton Kutcher said, there's never a job that he had that he was better than. But people don't have that attitude today and would rather be on welfare than pick produce. Steinbeck's early 20th century days were characterized by valuing hard work and even somebody like Steinbeck had a character of solid steel compared to you Leftists today. Even communists didn't believe that stuff should just be given to people.
