Neither of these strikes me as a serious crime. We don't usually throw citizens who commit DA in jail, we order them to get counselling.

Again, if people don't show up to court as witnesses or defendants because they fear ICE will snag them up, our whole system will fall apart.

And this is what you don't get. 15% of our population is foreign-born. When you have the ICEstapo declaring war on not only undocumented immigrants, but legal immigrants, naturalized citizens, and even people who were born here but belong to the wrong ethnicity, that just creates chaos.

One of my very good friends is from the Philippines. Her husband and her son are US citizens. She's been a naturalized citizen since 2018. (She's lived here since 2006). Yet she now feels the need to carry her naturalization documents and US Passport with her in case ICE picks her up.

She said she feels like she's living in 1930s Germany. I can't dispute that.
