Since I was not posting here when the primary elections were in their early stages...

Just looking to see who everyone's original candidate was...

Personally, I was a Fred Thompson guy. Knew he never really stood a chance, but liked his views more than most anyone out there on the Republican side.

I think seeing who people gravitated towards in the first place, tells a little more about the person, than who they are supporting out of the 2 candidates left

Edwards...

But that's just I like a man that knows how to impress the female voters.

Ron Paul first, Thompson second.

Thompson kind of pissed me off though because it looked like he made such a half assed effort.

Denny (the menace) K.

Glad I wasn't a hardcore Edwards guy. Still woulda been better than Clinton though.

Ron Paul first, Thompson second.

That is what got me too with Thompson... should have gotten in much sooner and should have been much more enthusiastic about it...

I was never and will never be a Ron "Dr. No" Paul guy... the guy truly scares me about as much as some of his conspiracy theorist followers do (not that all of his followers are conspiracy theorists... but he attracted an abnormal amount of them)

He's the anti postal canidate.

He represents the really hardcore libertarian wing of your party.

I was a bit of a libertarian too, before I reached the age of reason. Like 16 or so.

But much like many Dems do not consider ones like Zel Miller 'actual' Dems.. I really do not consider Paul a Republican... I definitely consider him an extremist libertarian

Agreed. Liberman too before he left.

I have noticed that CT's do seem very drawn to the libertarian candidates. I suppose if you believe that evil jews run the government, best to keep the government small. :cuckoo:

Well... I don't know about Lieberman... except for his support for the war, his voting record is pretty much in line with the traditional Dem platform (not the extreme lefty liberal platform, like Obama and his socialist agenda)... he is definitely one of the most moderate Dems, much like the respectable Dems of the past used to be.. Lieberman seems to stay the course with his stances, it is the controlling elite of the Dem party that have shifted WAY to the left

I think that's a fairly good assessment of Lieberman.

A liberal Dem who is also a very VERY loyal supporter of Israel.

Because he follows the constitution literally? What's so extremist about him?

I mean, I see many people say that but none have ever backed it up with examples. All anyone does is say he's a kook, and that's it. "I don't like his supporters". Or..."Ron's not a republican". And that's it. Nothing else.

He's more of a republican than almost every one of the idiots running on that side this year. Tancredo, Hunter, Paul, and Thompson were the only ones that had any business calling themselves Republicans, let alone conservatives.

Why don't you put up or shut up, dude. Let's hear all about how Paul isn't a republican, and how he's really just an "extremist" libertarian.

Especially in light of that fact that you seem to worship Reagan, who was about as close to Paul as any candidate you could get, in his earlier, more pure years. Reagan himself embraced libertarianism, and realized it is a fundamental part of being a conservative.

I was on the sidelines rooting for Kucinich on one side and Ron Paul on the other. Sensible guys. Wonder if anyone like them's ever gonna win.

Edit: Did any of you actually listen to Ron Paul on foreign policy? He was far apart from Reagan. Probably on different ends of the spectrum really.

If you want to compare Paul to any historical Republican.. .I would not put him close to Reagan... but rather close to Goldwater...

There are distinct differences between Paul's "Libertarian Conservatism" and a True Conservative platform...

Paul's almost fear of intervention puts him well into the libertarian and less into the conservative mold
