Zone1 You Find a Wallet with Money and Credit Cards

If you have a moral compass and a soul, there is no question.....find the owner and return it all.
This happened to me not too long ago. The poor woman cried that I actually gave it back to her and asked nothing.

If, however, you have no moral values and are a Godless heathen, you probably just grin and think it's your "lucky day".
Okay here's a scenario I want to see what you say. My dad is a very very good person. Christian. Is he perfect? No. But pretty close.

But he's a retired 80 year old man. His hobby is to collect cans. So he looks like an old poor bum. He's not. He's worth about $800K. More than once people at the bottle returns have given him $20. He says he says "oh no" but they insist. We all say he should explain to them he's just collecting bottles as a hobby. For something to do. It makes him get out and walk. But he doesn't do that. He says no once then accepts it. One woman gave him her bottle return slip and told him to turn it over. The bottle slip was worth $6 but there was a $20 bill on the other side. He should be ashamed right?

I tell him he should pay it forward but he says no fucking way. Do you know how many bottles I have to pick up to make $26? LOL. Cheap ass!!!

But hey, this is my inheritance. He could be a senior spending his life savings. He makes more on interest, social security and cans than he pays in bills each month. His bank account isn't shrinking it's growing.

I would return it.

I'm too scare of the Law Karma.....what you do good or bad returns to yourself like a boomerang.:dunno:

I had a tenant that decided it was a good idea to put her $500 rent thru my door mailbox. Cash. I get home, see money strewn all over my floor and sigh. I went over to her apt and told if she did that again, I'd keep it since she didn't get a receipt from me and was lucky I KNEW who it was. She never did it again. Geez.

These.scenarios are easy for me, just return it as is. Last time I found a.wallet I didnt even open it up, I just put it in the mailbox but I could feel by the thickness that cash was inside. I needed money at the time too. Same with at the casino, Ive found $20 bills multiple times and went to the cashier to hand it in, let them check their video. I dont want what isnt mine. I used to work at a bank and had credit cards and debit cards at the branch that I could have set the key to and just used them at will. I could even make copies of debit cards if I wanted but that's not my path in life. I always say, let someone find a bag with a million dollars late at night on the side of an empty deserted road to test ones temptation. Is your soul worth a measly million dollars? What do you do in that instance? I even once found $20 at.the back of a.store while.in university. The had video games.bsck there, hardly played. I handed it to the store owner.and he took it saying "I know who that belongs to, an old man who was in earlier" He probably kept it thinking im a fool but I dont care, its his problem now, right?

It's happened to me. I didn't touch the wallet...I just left it where it was laying.

I could just imagine if I picked it up it will be used as evidence against me because the owner was murdered.

I thunked...nope...I'll just walk past it & keep on going.
That's a hell of a point and I am paranoid based on what I have gone through in life so I agree.with this approach. Sadly, this is how messed up the world is,especially in Canada. Believe me, many in positions of authority here have no conscience at all. Zero. They'd enjoy throwing a human being to crocodiles, "not me so.I dont care". As soon as Trump threatened a tariff though, there is.collective outrage, NOW the media and politicians care about bullying. Its ok to violate citizens here, destroy lives and bully others and no one protects our Charter. The bullies dont llke being on the receiving end though...

What do you do?

Return it money and all?
Return it without the money and say that's how you found it?
Take the money and throw out the wallet with credit cards?
Take the money and try to use the credit cards?
Go one step further and steal their identity?

There was a time in my life where I would have taken the money and returned the wallet. Lied and said the money was gone.

There was NEVER a time in my life where I would use the credit cards. I suspect some would say "that's okay the credit card company won't make them pay for what I purchased".

Even worse if they use your debt card. Pure scum.

Identity thieves should be executed. Send a message to other people who would do this.

I had a college roommate once who found a phone back in the 90's. The person who lost it called him and he fucked with this person for days. Told them to meet him and then he would not show up. Talk to them on the phone. Infuriate them. He ended up being a real creep but boy was this an early sign. Sociopath for sure.

Also regarding ethics. I suppose if it's a rich looking person and just $100 or a poor looking grandmother who's carrying around her rent in this purse you just found.

What if you found $30,000? I have to be honest. I might be tempted to keep it. I know that's a scummy thing to do but I'm just being honest.

Why am I posting this? I'm watching "Scary People". Remember those con artists murdering bodybuilders in Miami back in the 80's? The Rock did a movie about these guys. Just horrible people. Do anything to make money.
I found a wallet with money and ID while I was in college and broke. I turned it into the campus police.

I spend so little on clothes. My brother gives me hand me downs. I wear shit for years. Longer than I should. Last month the owners came in from Germany so I went and bought a bunch of new shirts. I can see how people get addicted to buying new clothes. I love wearing new clothes.

But I need to save for retirement so I suspect it will be over a year before I buy more.

I just bought some Sketchers that have two great features. 1. They are washable. 2. Slip on back. You don't know how many shoes I have to throw away because they stink or I've ruined the heals.
I srill have a jacket that is almost 25 years old. Same.with some nice dress shirts and ties.. I buy generally basic neutral colors anyways, nothing too design oriented or.flashy.

As soon as Trump threatened a tariff though,.there is.collective outrage,

I highly doubt there will be any tariffs on canada. Trump (and all of us) want the border secure & canadas tariffs on the USA to go away. (such as your tariff on wisconsin cheese). That's all.

But if those tariffs remain...well, then yeah, there will be equal tariffs put on canadian goods.

You Find a Wallet with Money and Credit Cards

It has happened three times and each time I returned it money and all. Also once I found a mobile telephone. But I don't live in the United Snakes where the average dream is to find a million dollars in an envelope on the curb.

Golden Rule vs. Silver Rule? There are not grey areas.......either you are honest in projecting your morality with the Golden Rule, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.........or you are dishonest. There is indeed absolute applications of morality........anything other than total honesty misses the mark.

I would return it all because it is the right thing to do. My good deed is my reward and that is all I would need or expect.

When myself and family members jaunted to the US in the 90's and early 00's, there were two incidents. My brother's wallet fell out of his pocket in the hotel. He noticed a little time sooner and went to the front desk. Yes, it had been handed in but luckily had about $20 in cash on the wallet. All his cards etc.. were still there, the cash was gone.

Another time was a connecting flight back, I don't know which airport. My cousin got off the plane unknowing his wallet fell out of his pocket. Later he reported it to an airport official. We boarded the plane back to the UK and at the last minute the wallet was handed back. As we were heading home he only had a couple of so $1 bills. All cards etc.. present, the $2 or $3 dollars gone.

So from a Brit point of view and experience, Americans rob your cash if you drop your wallet.

Have you heard boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. walks around with $1 million dollars? Who's the highest paid boxer in Canada? Exactly. So the opportunities aren't there for people in other countries. That's why no one would drop $1 million in your country or Canada because no one is making that kind of money. Isn't it great that it's possible for some nobody to become that rich?

A Canadian who can box will come to America to get rich.

Justin Beiber sold his catalog for something like $100 million dollars. He's Canadian. He sold his music in America. Because no one in Canada has $100 million dollars. Or they aren't going to pay that much for someone's music.

My dad loves to tell me how when he was young he ran into this famous Greek singer or that famous Greek singer. I asked him if these singers were rich. They were not. Just famous. Today famous Greek singers come to America to get rich off us Greek Americans.

Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto came to America to make $60 plus million.

Seems like the only ones getting rich in other countries is soccer players

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nassr, Saudi Pro League) - €262m. Ronaldo, 39, broke his own record for yearly earnings, making €239 million in 2023 - double that of any other footballer on the list.

What country you in?

I'm sure that's all true. Bachman Turner Overdrive and Paul Anka are from Canada and I suppose they made their fortunes in the United Snakes.
What country you in?
The, until recently, wonderful country of Sweden. I'm still here but it ain't wonderful any more.

We all need to realize that the entire world is still struggling to get out of inflation. The funny thing is Biden did a great job. We hardly felt the pain. While Trump convinced voters Biden did a bad job, every other country in the world is struggling and WORSE than us.

Of course poor people felt the pain but they always feel it when we have to fix inflation. It hurts their wages, savings, job opportunities, etc.

If I found $100 in my parking lot I'd keep it. If I heard the person crying about losing it I'd give it back.
This actually happened to me. I found a rolled up huge roll of money at a gas station. As I was pondering what to do, a car rolled in and the driver got out, looking around frantically. I asked him what he was looking for, and it was the wad of cash. Of course I gave it to him. While thanking me profusely, he stated that he and his family were just leaving town on vacation, and that if the money would have been lost, they would have had to turn around and go home. Keeping the money never crossed my mind.

I wouldn't/couldn't either.

But, if I found a wad of cash like that and no one showed up, I'd probably put it in my pocket and leave. And just keep the money. Not knowing I just ruined 4 people's vacation.

My wife got caught in a flooded culdesac at home and dropped her wallet with several hundred dollars in it scrambling to the roof of the car when the water went down a neighbor boy found it and returned it intact. we of course rewarded the boy not sure how much my wife handled that but she was very appreciative of the act.
