It's simple. If Brits and French are sending their troops as "volunteers" or "mercenaries" (as they do now) Russia will simply kill them (as Russia do now). First of all because both of them simple doesn't have plenty of soldiers, and because they are neither trained nor equipped for this war.

But if France and Britain sent their troops with their national flags waiving, it means that they are ready to escalate situation up to the nuclear exchange. And in this situation Putin will call Trump and ask him: "Are you responsible for their actions, or they are on their own?".
I. If Trump wash his hands and let them gone - Russia will nuke nuclear bases in the UK (1, may be 2 targets) and in France (3, may be 4 targets) aka Limited Counter-force Strike and then suggest them peaceful solution (which will include significant fines and territorial losses for both France and England). If they do not retaliate and accept thise terms - Russia won. If they do not accept those terms and attack Russian cities (counter-value strike) Russia will suffer pretty acceptable loses, but then, in return, Russia will kill more than 90% of British and French population and also won.

II. If Trump say, that the UK and France attacked Russia by his, Trump, order, it means that United States openly declared war to Russia. And then Russia has only one option to survive - attack United States first and try to eliminate as much of US nukes as it possible (plus defend their own civilians by evacuation and sheltering). Of course it will be gambling, but Russia has pretty good chance to suffer more or less acceptable damage - lesser than 40 mln Russian killed.
