There's quite the difference between global anomalies avgs and a local daily temperature. The little ice age in 1680 was less then -2c colder then today globally at its peak.


Even during the ice age the planet was only -8c below today. glacial all the way to the northern part of long island and ohio valley. Yeah a few degrees is really insignificant. LOL.

The facts are that 2013 is going to be the 7th hottest year on record globally, and that all of the warmest years on record have occurred since 1998, and that the coldest years happening now are all warmer than the hottest years before 1998 - and all of these facts are indicators of a warming climate. Yeah, it's cold some places but it's also very hot some places. Australia is just finishing their hottest year on record. In 2012, the USA experienced our hottest year on record. On balance, annually and globally, there are more places experiencing unusual heat than unusual cold. It's the long term global trends that are are significant in talking about global warming and global climates changes.

A friend that knew of my interest in geology asked me if I thought that an eruption of Yellowstone was imminent. I said yes, definately. He looked alarmed and asked me "how soon?". My answer was "within the next 50,000 years for sure". Most people just don't appreciate geological time spans.
