CLIMATE CHANGE
Yale's climate change program out of gas

After years of feeling the heat, Yale’s Climate & Energy Institute is finally facing an inconvenient truth: the program will close at the end of June.

The shuttering follows three consecutive years of budget cuts for the program, which was established eight years ago to conduct climate change research. The impending closure was announced Monday afternoon in an email from the institute’s co-directors, geology and geophysics professors David Bercovici and Jay Ague, and reported by the Yale Daily News.

The institute’s purpose is to analyze how climate change interacts with modern energy use. Students have conducted research on topics such as monitoring groundwater during fracking and how climate change impacts diarrhea rates. Recent lectures have included “climate change and human rights,” “climate change and evolving investment strategies” and “should Yale adopt an internal carbon tax?”

When your BEST contributions to Climate Science are diarrhea and human rights --- you just know the jig is up....

You think they produced anything of value to Climate Science there? Sounds like socio-economic BullCrap (with diarrhea) to me.. Why are you depressed?

There is a socio-economic-political agenda behind the climate change curtain. This just illustrates how the bandwagon got full of shit..

It's a university. It's designed to educated students to go to the next level. So they have students researching things so they can learn how to do research.

They don't need to do anything useful in terms of providing evidence for climate change. They need to be EDUCATING STUDENTS in how to do research.

Can't argue with that.. What they DON'T need to be doing is exploiting Climate Science as an EXCUSE to employ economic/polysci majors to do BS "what-ifs" on Federal Grant money...

THAT is not Yale level contribution to science.

The biggest problem with "climate change science" isn't the research that is being done. Often it is the reporting of that research. reporters pick up on stuff and make a snazzy headline that wows the people, or annoys the people, or whatever, and it might be based on misreading the science that has been presented.

So a student does some research, comes to a conclusion, they publish it so students get that experience and then wham, some idiot reporter then tells you that Yale says this about climate change when A) Yale didn't say it and B) what is claimed isn't what was said in the first place.

Then Yale gets criticized for that.

Maybe they can do some useful research on why certain academics are readjusting the Temperature Record to suit their AGW bias??? THAT would be useful!!!

Did it ever occur to you that global warming might affect cholera transmission rates? How many people got sick and died of cholera last year? Let's look it up.

Number of reported cholera cases
Situation
In 2014, a total of 42 countries from all continents reported 190 549 cases of cholera to WHO, of which 55% were reported from Africa and 15% from the Americas where a large outbreak that started in Haiti at the end of October 2010 also affected the Dominican Republic. Globally, however, the true number of cholera cases is known to be much higher. Cholera represents an estimated burden of 1.4 to 4.0 million cases, and 21 000 to 143 000 deaths per year worldwide. The trends and annual figures exclude many cases labeled “acute watery diarrhoea”, notably occurring in south-eastern and central Asia (i.e. in Bangladesh and Pakistan). However, during outbreaks, many countries report as cholera cases many cases of acute watery diarrheoa which are not due to Vibrio cholerae. The actual numbers of cholera cases are therefore known to differ from those reported. Differences can be explained by under-reporting due to fear of negative impact on travel and trade. Limitations in surveillance systems, inconsistencies in case definitions and lack of laboratory diagnostic capacities may also contribute to under- as well as over-reporting.
Number of reported cholera cases

You making fun of such research indicates either you're ignorant or an asshole or both.

No.. It didn't.. When I think of cholera epidemics --- I don't GRASP at a 1deg change in GLOBAL temperature to run and go and fix the diarrhea.. If it was to BECOME a factor --- it would still have the same BIOLOGICAL pathology that it always had and the same prescription for fixing it.

Bunch of economists and polysci-s can masturbate all day about putting a price tag on 1deg... That's what this "institute" was doing..

We are already seeing changes in rainfall patterns. A change that creates flooding, or causes an area or city to change it's water supply to one that is contaminated would be how that works.

Of course, all that will be denied by our resident deniers.

What? Deny that "rainfall patterns change?? You nutz? We just GOT an example of MASSIVE changes in rainfall patterns with the El Nino.. That's weather. There is no solid physical basis for claiming 1 deg of Uniform heating in the lower atmos BY ITSELF ---- has a plausible mechanisms for changing rainfall patterns. Other than uniformly increasing the ABILITY of the atmos to hold water as vapour. Doesn't GUARANTEE there will BE more vapor. Just the ability...

And that water vapor is not retarded by CO2 from releasing its heat to space. The top of the convection cycle will release that heat very well. The uniform heating will result in faster TOA release as has been documented by many researchers. NO mid tropospheric hot spot due to the water cycle, thus no loop of self heating atmosphere...

So many holes in the AGW theroy.

Hmmmmmm................. odd, seems that one degree warming, because the warming is more evident in the polar regions, creates a lessor differance between the temperate zone and the polar zone, which causes changes in the Rossby Waves in the Jet Stream. And that does create changes in rainfall patterns.

Between the additional water vapor and CH4 in the atmosphere the change for a doubling of CO2 is going to be far more than 2 degrees. Guess we will see who is correct on this in the coming years.

Comment, please.

From the publicly available data, Ewert made an unbelievable discovery: Between the years 2010 and 2012 the data measured since 1881 were altered so that they showed a significant warming, especially after 1950. […] A comparison of the data from 2010 with the data of 2012 shows that NASA-GISS had altered its own datasets so that especially after WWII a clear warming appears – although it never existed.”

Ederer writes that Ewert particularly found alterations at stations in the Arctic. Professor Ewert randomly selected 120 stations from all over the world and compared the 2010 archived data to the 2012 data and found that they had been tampered to produce warming.

(The work of Ederer and Ewert is in German, but the above can be found at NoTricksZone here.)

Government-Tampered Temperature Data Goes To The DC Circuit

If true then why ADJUST the data??? FRAUD!!!

Nice "theory".. But the data shows any GLOBALLY consistent changes in Rossby is most at the NORTHERN excursions of those patterns... Not at the southern extents. But ---- after gathering 50 or 150 years of GOOD data --- we should be able to agree on how that works..

Very few people actually claim THEY KNOW how that works..
