I am pretty conservative, but with guns and abortion I don't tow a hard line. I can see both sides.

If you have to be 21 to buy a beer, should you have to be at least that to buy a gun?

21 to buy a gun. 21 to use a gun in the army. From 18-21, give them other jobs to do.

Then we clean up background checks.

Then we work on improving a culture that is so ugly and violent that it turns troubled, lonely, isolated young people into mass murderers.

This is an all-of-the-above, all hands on deck issue that should transcend ideology. I'm doubtful it will.

21 to drive, drink, own a gun and join the military. This would be fine in my eyes as someone who ws once that age and understands how immature I and other were, it's probably worse today. This, especially as people are living longer and seemingly developing their logic and emotions much later in life.

To be honest, if there were a pro-gun politician looking to maintain the status quo he would push such a Bill and it would probably fail miserably.

It was akin to Trump telling all the socialist leaders of the world who were complaining about tariffs "let's eliminate ALL tariffs and subsidies in our economies, I will sign that". They all went silent.

For what it was worth, I think it was a genius move and exposed the hypocrisy of other nations who have exploited and harmed the U.S economy for a long time through their own protectionism (while complaining that Trump was the protectionist).

Pretty much a no brainer

if the govt can convict you and put you in prison for life as an adult at 18, if the govt can require you to fight for it and die at 18…then you should be able to buy a gun for yourself

I have no problem with someone under 21 using a gun under supervision (be it military or civilian) but ownership/purchase absolutely needs to be over 21

This kid was bullied in school and was a scholastic failure who was bitter about that. The minute he turned 18 he began purchasing guns obviously with the intention of "getting even".

Had he had three years to separate himself from that experience things likely would have been different

Why?

Just out of "fairness"

Fairness to who? Certainly not society

why? why are you ok with sending 18 year olds off to die for you but won’t let them own a gun?

rather selfish of you

You're an idiot, but I agree with you here.

no to the 18 year old. society isn’t harmed by 18 year olds owning guns.

Fair more people use guns and other means to do damage that are over 21

That is already the law with handguns. It is 18 for rifles. It should be 18 for both. Also it is legal for those under 21 to drink in many states. Globally the age to purchase alcohol 18 and under is the most common.

I could live with setting the age to own/purchase a gun to 21. I don't know that it would solve much. So the crazies either wait 3 years to go on a killing spree, do so with illegal guns, or us other means.

The age of majority has to be consistent for everything, pick one age and go with it.

So guns, abortions without parental consent, marriage without parental consent, drafting, getting your twig and berries chopped off if you feel like it, parental responsibility, etc.

I've always found 21 to drink a bit priggish. I thought they had standardized drinking age across all states many years ago. None of that has bearing on the notion I put forth . I would feel slightly safer around an armed 21 yo than an 18 yo; less impulsive perhaps.

Raising the drinking age to 21 invariably reduces traffic deaths.

Maturity matters
