The analogy is as if the USSR was giving North Vietnam not only missiles to shoot down US planes bombing Vietnam, but also missiles to attack US territory itself by allowing them to do so. What would be the outcome...?

Yes, I think it might be nice to supply Mexican cartels with brand new UAVs to allow them terrorise the targets on the US territory.

Continue denying reality? Direct war between two nuclear states with decisive goals - is a nuclear war. There is no other option.

Even Biden and Trump know better.

Putin knows he would come out on the short end of a nuclear war

To threaten a nuclear war if Russia is invaded is one thing

But to threaten nuclear war unless you are allowed to invade someone else will not be tolerated

Really? Threaten nuclear war if you vital interests are threatened - is quite normal. Like, you know, the USA were ready to escalate to nuclear war back in 1962. It was not because Soviet forces landed in Florida. It was because Soviet missiles on Cuba were a vital threat for the USA (as well as were American missiles in Turkey for Russia). Nuclear war in 1962 when the USA strike first might be the lesser evil (say some twenty million Americans and one hundred million Soviets are dead, Soviet Union defeated), comparing with possible nuclear war in 1963 with all Soviet IRBMs deployed and Russians striking first (say 30% of American population is dead, America defeated, and the Soviet Union lost 20 mln killed).
Back in 1962, mutually acceptable solution of equal safety was found (Russia withdraw missiles from Cuba, America withdraw missiles from Turkey). It was found basically because both sides understood what are goals of both sides, and what mutually acceptable solution could be.
The current crisis is much worse mostly because America doesn't want even try to understand what is the root of the problem. Why Russia started this operation and what are Russia's goals. So yes, I don't think that this time mutually acceptable solution will be found.

Sorry Skippy
But it doesn’t work like that

You do not get to threaten nuclear war every time you don’t get your way

The world will not give in to Putin’s tantrums

We can threaten nuclear war when our vital interests are endangered. Its all about the price you ready to pay for achieving your goals. Like, Russia want to take Alaska, but is not ready to pay for it more than one million killed. America want to keep Alaska and ready to pay at least fifty million killed, and there is no practical way for Russia to kill more than 50 mln American suffering lesser than 1 mln losses. That's why Russia didn't even try to take Alaska.
The world will not give in to Putin’s tantrums
The world (the world's majority) is pretty tired of American "hegemony" and American incompetence. Russia doesn't seek for global domination, just for safety. It's pretty acceptable for almost everyone.

they are tired of us until they need our hep....

But they did predict it.
Yes, they did. But wars are inevitable as winters. One doesn't need to be a prophet or genius to predict a winter. The only question is what kind of winter there will be - mild or severe, will it start early or lately, how much snow will fall... Details are important. And details are barely predictable. Some of details are unpredictable even in theory.

What does it say about a civilization where wars are inevitable?

This Dystopia Would Never Be Accepted Without Extensive Indoctrination

I am not a politically complicated person. I think genocide is bad. I think peace is good. I don’t think anyone should be struggling to survive in a civilization that is capable of providing for all. I think we should try to preserve the biosphere we all depend on for survival.

To me these are just obvious, common sense positions, no more remarkable or profound than believing I should refrain from slamming my nipple in a car door. I do not think these views should put me on the political fringe. I don’t think they should cause me to be seen as some kind of radical. It’s not outlandish that I hold these views, it’s outlandish that everyone else does not.

But that’s the kind of society we find ourselves in today. The obvious is framed as freakish while the freakish is presented as obvious. Health is framed as sickness while sickness is presented as health. The moderate is framed as extremism while extremism is presented as moderate.

We live in a twisted, backwards dystopia where everything is the opposite of the way it should be, and we’re conditioned to think it’s normal and acceptable.

Most of them were wrong. Few were pretty accurate.
Here's what Friedrich Engels wrote 30 years before WW I.
about the coming world war:

“... For Prussia-Germany no other war is now possible but a world war. And it would be a world war of unprecedented size, unprecedented strength. From eight to ten million soldiers would strangle each other and in doing so would devour the whole of Europe to such an extent as never before have locust clouds devoured it.
The devastation caused by the Thirty Years' War - compressed over three or four years and spread over the whole continent, the famine, the epidemics, the general feralization of both troops and masses of the people, caused by acute want, the hopeless confusion of our artificial mechanism in trade, industry, and credit; all this ends in general bankruptcy;

Тhe collapse of the old states and their routine statesmanship,-a collapse such that crowns by the dozens are lying on the sidewalk and there is no one to lift these crowns; the utter impossibility of foreseeing how it will all end and who will emerge victorious from the struggle; only one result is absolutely certain: General exhaustion and the creation of the conditions for the final victory of the working class.

Do the german people even grasp that their own government is dragging them toward a head-on collision with Russia?
Major cities like Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich will be marked as fair targets and they’re sleepwalking right into it.

Wrong. Since his prediction Germany has been participating in some ten local wars.

And it would be a world war of unprecedented size, unprecedented strength.
Discussable. Depends how to count.

From eight to ten million soldiers would strangle each other and in doing so would devour the whole of Europe to such an extent as never before have locust clouds devoured it.

Wrong. Bankruptcy wasn't "general". Some sides won, some were defeated.

Тhe collapse of the old states and their routine statesmanship,-a collapse such that crowns by the dozens are lying on the sidewalk and there is no one to lift these crowns;
Wrong. There are always a guy who do want to lift a crown. Actually, often there are too many of them.

the utter impossibility of foreseeing how it will all end and who will emerge victorious from the struggle; only one result is absolutely certain: General exhaustion and the creation of the conditions for the final victory of the working class.
Wrong. Working class definitely didn't win in the most countries and it's quite discussable about its victory in Russia.

So, what did he really predict? "There will be a big war, eventually. " Not much of prediction, as for me.

Do the german people even grasp that their own government is dragging them toward a head-on collision with Russia?

Actually, they don't have much of choice. Europe is overpopulated and "cheap resources from Russia" are not enough. They need those resources for free, and they do want to genocide Russians. So, they do what they always do - they try conquere Russia and genocide Russians. If they succeed - they win. If they are defeated - the Russians will decrease the quantity of Europeans and may be even occupy (and feed) them. They know Russians are quite merciful and generous to defeated enemies.

Well, who raised the crowns of the Austrian, Russian, German emperors and the Turkish Sultan? Where are these monarchies?

The russian working class won and that was enough to change everything.

And about the fact that everyone thought that there would be a big war, this is from the series, “smart, as my wife after".
Almost everyone thought that big war in Europe was no longer possible, that machine guns and other military inventions made war impossible, because everyone would kill each other. And the politicians thought that the war would pass very quickly and everyone would be home in a couple of months.
Doesn't sound at all like Engels' view, does it?
