Wow, Now Even CBS Is Realizing There Is No Inflation From Tariffs

Silly me, I was thinking maybe it would be wiser to avoid inflation before it gets to be a problem.

The way I see it, either Trump continues to levy tariffs and inflation will continue to rise, or he reduces or ends them and declares victory over the imbalance of trade. If the tariffs go away or are reduced, the imbalance of trade will return to what it was or nearly so. But if the tariffs are continued, consumer prices WILL rise and so will inflation, however slowly. If he also gets his $2000 tariff dividend passed through Congress then inflation will go up even more.
You are silly because you listen to CNN and just believe what they say without applying your brain. Which is what they count on.
Inflation rate of around 2% is actually good for the economy. It is a sign of balance. No inflation at all, is a bad thing. Because of what that means.
An inflation rate of 3% is not bad.
Biden''s 40 year high inflation, and a long period of it - is what we are still dealing with. PERIOD.

Will tariffs raise/inflate retail prices on consumers?

Actually, you dipweed, I haven't watch CNN in more than 30 years. Nor any other TV news outlet, it's pretty much all partisan bullshit. And I don't believe what anybody says, certainly not you.

True, a 3% inflation rate isn't bad. I'm more concerned with inflation rising above that. At what point does it become a problem that needs to be addressed before it gets out of hand? You have no idea, do you? But it seems prudent to be concerned about inflation at some point and avoid taking actions that acerbate it. I think it's kinda stupid to let the good times roll until the shit hits the fan.

Yea bullshit, Americans get the privilege of having to pay 15%+ more for EU imports.

Thanks Trump, what a great guy.
So we dont buy them and pay nothing. What imports from Europe. Volvo Volkswagen and Jeep are coming to America. You dont produce anything we want

Even healthy inflation bites away at the buying power of the dollar. We have to begin asking ourselves the question whether we as a society have reached a point where we can actually no longer afford to survive.

Survive? I dunno man, that's a bit too pessimistic for me. I do think as a society we need to ratchet down the spending and debt/deficits as a gov't and as individuals we need to go back to living within our means. Our grandparents did; well, mine did cuz I'm an old fart (77). I do believe we have become a little too extravagant, and I do see the rising cost of food, housing, education and healthcare. There's not a lot of people raising the alarm yet, but we do seem to be heading for a major paradigm shift.

You can buy whatever the hell you want, the rest will buy what they want, which now happens to be more expensive if it's partially or fully sourced from EU.

Thanks Trump.

At what point do you stop hoping for doom and gloom because you hate Trump so much, and when did this feeling ever arise while Biden was President.?

1. I do not like DJT, but I do not hate him. I do however prefer his agenda over that of the democrats, which is why I voted for him 3 times. But I do not like many of his methods and ideas, notably among them the tariffs. I didn't like them when the democrats levied tariffs many years ago, and I do not like them now. Why? Cuz they don't ******* work. You get a temporary reduction in the imbalance of trade and then the tariffs are reduced or dropped, and the imbalance returns to what it was and goes higher. Trump is not the 1st president to levy tariffs on steel and aluminum.

2. I do not hope for gloom and doom. But I have the right to opine about what's going on, and if you don't like what I have to say, tough shit. I see bad economic times coming and I'm concerned. At 77, it won't be me that feels the pain and it's not self-interest at work here.

3. I have noticed that there are too many simpletons who kiss ass on both sides of the aisle; as far as I'm concerned, Trump is no hero and neither was Biden or Obama. I found plenty to dislike about their policies moreso than Trump and I have a history on this forum that backs that up.

4. It is a sad fact that too many posters on this board on both sides attack the poster rather than address the message posted. This country has been deeply divided IMHO, and people like you are part of the problem. Maybe it's to be expected, critical thinking apparently isn't taught anymore, even at the highest levels of education. But if all we do is dig deeper foxholes and lob insults and whatnot at each other then where does that get us?
