Who says the single most charitable organization on Earth is "An abomination that causes desolation"?

In my humble opinion...

The Catholic Church is anything but desolate - although it is an imperfect reflection of mankind - it constantly strives to make the world a better place. The Church - through its hundreds of charities, has given hope, life, and healing to millions and millions of people - the opposite of what one would call "desolate".

On a micro level, have individuals within the Church led others to feel "desolate"? Yes - and that is a reflection of the struggles people have fulfilling the most important teachings - not the Church as a whole - on a macro level.

A better example of "an abomination that causes desolation" is one who masquerades as righteous yet with full knowledge and intent- leads someone else to feel desolate. "Knowledge and intent" are the key words here.
