World's first 3D-printed office building opens in Dubai
The thing that separates the first world from the third is education and innovation.
The world’s first 3D printed office building has opened in Dubai, with Austrian company Bene being responsible for the interior design and furnishing of the building. The building was prindted within 17 days. It is just the first building of the complex.
Office of the Future is the first building of its kind in the world and offers 250 sqm of office space. It is a workplace designed for innovation and better communication between teams. At the invitation of the Dubai government, Bene furnished the world’s first ever 3D printed office building, employing its Bene Idea Lab concept for innovative furniture and creative space. It was built to be the new location of the Dubai Futures Foundation, a government initiative aimed at promoting pioneering and innovative projects and partnerships, with an emphasis on the future of real estate, construction and design. The huge concrete elements of the building were printed in Shanghai with a 37m long 3D printer before the pieces were then shipped to the United Arab Emirates. The architects of the project estimate that printing the office instead of building it on-site has saved up to 80 pct of the construction costs, 60 pct of the labor costs and up to 60 pct of the costs of construction waste. Office of the Future is intended to become a cultural centre in the region, through a variety of public and private events.
Traditional office work will not be the primary focus of the building, since the space it provides will function more as an interface for communication and discussions between interested parties from across the world. This is why the space has an open and flexible design and is suitable for a wide variety of applications and team sizes. The interiors have been fitted out with furniture from Bene’s AL and Filo management ranges, along with different arrangements of the company’s Parcs range. The largest building and the centrepiece of the Office of the Future has been fitted out according to the Bene Idea Lab concept, designed to help creative individuals develop and implement their ideas. It is equipped with a highly intelligent and interactive media wall, the Idea Wall, as well as furniture from the Parcs and Timba ranges suitable for brainstorming sessions, presentations and focused individual work.
