It sure looked like a punch to me... and IMO even if it was a shove he could have killed her... Like the story I told about a bar fight near me... the guy fell hit his head and died two days later while in a coma... the guy who hit him is serving 20 years in prison... I don't hit women for any reason... My father made sure that sunk into my thick teenage scull....

Yeah he should have walked away. She couldn’t hurt him. Pushing her could have resulted in great physical harm to her, resulting in criminal charges against him.

Being a woman, I certainly love that chivalry, and thank you for your self-restraint, but if I hit a man, I would expect that one of the results could be retaliation. Which is why I would weigh the consequences of walking up to a stranger and assaulting him before I took action.
The fact that he didn't haul off and nail her with a right hook, makes me side with him for just pushing her away. I have a feeling she regrets hitting a stranger until she garners a reaction. I bet she doesn't feel so emboldened next time.

I get that. And would probably agree with it had he hit her. My rational would be that he didn't have to hit her so hard. He could have just shoved her away. But, in fact, that is what he did. He pushed her away and stopped her from striking him a third or fourth time. How many free shots does she get? How would you have stopped her if she continued to assault you?
