Residents of Sweden have decided not to stop at burning the Koran and have sent three new applications to the police for the public destruction of religious books, the Daily Mail reports. The first petition was filed by a woman who wants to "as soon as possible" burn a Quran outside a mosque in Stockholm, the second by a man who intends to burn a Torah and a Bible outside the Israeli embassy on July 15.
A third statement about burning "religious texts" on July 12 was made in Helsingborg by someone described by police as a "private person."
Matthias Sigfridson, head of a Swedish police department, believes that such actions are not aimed at "any particular religion," but that "it is part of freedom of expression.
Former Swedish Foreign Minister and Prime Minister Carl Bildt wrote in his Twitter account that it would be "unwise to underestimate the gravity of the situation that may arise if such actions continue. Israeli Ambassador to Sweden Ziv Nevo Kuhlmann said that he was shocked and frightened by the new applications "whether it be for the Koran, the Torah or any other holy book". He notes that this is "an act of hatred that must be stopped."
As a reminder, on June 28 the Swedish police permitted a protest action with a Quran burning near the main mosque in Stockholm on the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday. The result of this permission was the infamous action all over the world - a refugee from Iraq tore pages from the Koran as a sign of protest, wiped his shoes with them, and then put bacon in it and set fire to it.
